
Cricket at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will be played in a temporary, purpose-manufactured structure at Pomona, Fairground in Southern California, the organizing committee announced on Tuesday.
According to a press release issued by the Olympic Organizing Committee, the Fairground in Pomona, officially known as FairPlex, has an about 500 -acre event complex in Southern California, which has hosted the Los Angeles County Fair since 1922. It is also a year -long site for music, business shows, sports and cultural events.
LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said, “We have promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we are proud to share the plan that will do so.” “Los Angeles is the subscription to game, culture and entertainment, and every place selected for the 2028 games will provide the best possible experience to athletes and fans.”
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has welcomed the announcement as enthusiasm has been created around the Olympic return of cricket as it was confirmed that the game would return to the Games after a gap of 128 years.
The game was last shown in Paris 1900, where a two-day match was held between Great Britain and France-now recognized as an informal test.
The T20 competitions of both men and women will have the facility of each six teams, with 90-Khiladi quota per gender, each nation will be allowed to bring a squad up to 15 players.
The full tournament schedule will be finalized near the beginning of the Games.
ICC President J Shah said, “We welcome the announcement of the venue for cricket at Los Angeles 2028 as it is an important step to prepare for our game return to the Olympics.”
“Although cricket is a very popular sport, it will be a great opportunity to expand traditional boundaries, when it is rapidly included in the Olympics, the exciting T20 format that should appeal to the new audience.
“On behalf of ICC, I want to express my gratitude for LA28 and International Olympic Committee for his support and ready to cooperate with him and ICC members in preparing LA28 and make cricket a big success.”
Cricket return to the Olympics in October 2023 Los Angeles Games – Basball/Softball, Flag Football, Lacros (Six) and five additional games for squash.
The T20 format is shown in the first multi-sport events, with both men and women competitions held at the Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023. A female T20 tournament is shown at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
