Mumbai: Zomato (now eternal) has closed about 500-600 employees working in customer aid roles citing non-demonstrations, said by sources. Some of the affected employees alleged that the company abolished the jobs without giving them a period without notice. Zomato refused to comment.
The firm hired more than 1,500 people under its ZOMATO Associate Accelerator Program (ZAAP) last year, which essentially covers customer support functions. Employees working with the department are out of Gurgaon and Hyderabad on a large scale and are tasked to address customer issues. Employees alleged that the company initially said that people working in customer aid roles would be given an opportunity to change departments and go to other profiles. Some of ZOMATO employees took the social media platform in Reddit, claiming that the company has been retrenched for the last few weeks.
Tech companies are rapidly bending on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate job functions and cut costs, affecting roles in departments including customer aid. Most of the customer aid questions in many companies are controlled by AI -run bots today. Startups like Paytm and Ola are also leaving jobs to save costs and taping in AI. ZOMATO, which has gone beyond food distribution to expand the cash guzaling Quick Commerce through the acquisition of the blinkit, has fallen a decline of Rs 59 crore in the December quarter of Rs 59 crore in a period of Rs 138 crore. In a separate exchange filing on Tuesday, Zomato stated that it has approved the grant of 2,17,960 stock options to its eligible employees.
