A woman was almost accused A child was found dead in Minnesota, 14 -year cold case of a child floating under the Mississippi River River As investigators say the DNA evidence suggests that she was the mother of the baby.
Jennifer Nicole Batchley was charged with two counts of killing a second degree in the death of investigators of a newborn girl, which was declared “Baby Angel”, the Vinona County officials announced on Thursday. Baby Angel was found floating inside a bag on the Mississippi river on 5 September 2011, which was seven miles south of Winona, Minnesota.
The bag in which it was found had a pendant, sunlight and many Angel idols.
Vinona County Sheriff Ron Gandrude told the reporter that the child’s death is “weighed on the hearts of the Vinona community.”
“She was better than a tomb of water,” said. “She deserved more than a life cut.”
According to a criminal complaint, a corpse examination determined that she was born a day or two before her death. A four -inch section of umbilical cord was connected to the child and it did not happen that Cord was cut by a medical provider.
The complaint stated, “The medical examiner mentioned several fractures in front of the infant’s skull and on the side.” “The brain was bleeding. There was no evidence of medical intervention on the baby.”
Evidence has shown that the fracture of the skull was maintained, while the child was still alive and did not occur during birth, according to the complaint.
The office of the County Sheriff worked to see every lead at that time with Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Indigestion, but was unable to receive replies as the newborn identified or what happened to it.
Sheriff’s office buried a child in 2016, NBC News related cars told at that time,
More than a decade after Baby Angel was found, the investigators reached the Firebird Forensic Group in an attempt to see if the genetic lineage could highlight a relative.
The complaint stated that Bachel was identified by Firebird as a possible lead in March 2023. Gandrude told reporters that the authorities had voluntarily present the DNA sample to see if it refused.
According to the complaint, investigators discovered her waste and found that “the female hygiene product was left” which was sent to DNA testing to compare with Baby Angel.
Officials said the tests conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Indigestion, confirmed that the bailings could be the mother of the child.
In 2024, to obtain a warrant to obtain a warrant was officially tested by the bureau to assemble the Bachel DNA. The report found “very strong evidence” that Baby Angel was the daughter of Bachel, said in the complaint.
Investigators spoke to Bachel’s family members who said that they had not kept contact with her since 2011. Relatives said that she was living in her van in Vinona at that time, according to the complaint.
When more was found in the bag with Baby Angel, the family members were shown as “the blue pendant immediately identified”.
He also noted that he collected angels and described him on every Christmas giving an angel jewelery.
Attorney Karin Sonman of Winona County told reporters that other, less serious allegations in the case were considered, but were out of a law of boundaries. Baeechle is the only person accused in the case.
“At this time, he is the only parents who came up,” said Sonman. “Obviously there is a father, but the forensic only identified him.”
Sonman said that the batchy had lived in Vinona for many years and two children were married. He is not considered a threat to the public, although Sonman argued in the court that he was a flight risk.
County’s counsel told reporters that batchy appeared in the court on Thursday for bail hearing. A judge set unconditional bail in $ 200,000 and a low, conditional bail was prescribed in $ 20,000.
The conditions of bail were that the batchy wears a GPS monitoring device and did not leave the state of Minnesota. If convicted, Baeechle has to face a sentence of 48 months.
The court records were not immediately available for the batch and NBC News was unable to identify a lawyer in his case. Sonman was not available on Thursday for more information.
The Sheriff Office said that it was booked in Vinona County Jail on Thursday but County prisoner records did not list him In custody till Thursday afternoon.
