Wildfire in South -East South Korea has killed at least 19 people, as the authorities confirmed on Wednesday that a fire fighting helicopter crashed during efforts to include the blaze.
According to Seoul -based Yonhap News, three victims were found in the capital of Northern Geyngsang Province, three in Chongsong, six in Yongyang and seven more in Yeongdock. Another person remains missing in Chongsong, while 10 others are reported to have been injured, including two in critical condition.
A 73-year-old pilot died when his S-76 helicopter is in service for 30 years-About 180 km south-east crashed in Uyjong, about 180 km from Aiol. Following the incident, all fire fighting helicopters were made the base by the authorities.
Acting President Han Duck-Suk described the Wildfire as the “worst” in the country’s history and called for a “all-out effort” to prevent their spread.
The caretaker President said that the fire has so far burned 17,000 hectares, destroying 209 houses and factories.
Blaze also forced the withdrawal of about 500 prisoners from a jail in North Gionongsang province.
Fire flames also provoked the historic Gunas Temple in Uyzong, originally built by a Buddhist monk during the Sila dynasty in 681 AD. Cultural authorities transferred the 9th -century stone of the temple to Buddha and other historical artifacts for protection before reaching the fire before the fire.
Thousands of firefighters, dozens of helicopters and emergency vehicles have been deployed since the fire broke out last Friday at Sanchong County in South Geongsang province. Surrounded by strong, dry winds, wildfires have been rapidly spread to Ujong, Endong, Chongsong, Yongyang and Yongdok in the north.
