West Virginia nominated Ross Hodge of North Texas as her men’s basketball coach, declared on Wednesday.
The school spokesperson told ESPN that Hodge, who agreed to the five -year deal with WVU, would continue to coach northern Texas through NIT. Meen Green has moved forward in the semi -finals as they want the second NIT title in three sessions.
“Ross Hodge is a proven winner and leader who has performed success at every stage of his career,” Wrain Baker said in a statement, director of West Virginia Athletic.
Baker knows Hodge from 2016 to 2022 as an UNT advertisement from his time. Hodge was an assistant coach with Green under Grant McCasland from 2017 to 2023, when Mcasland left for Texas Tech two years ago before taking over as head coach.
Hodge took northern Texas to the record of 19–15 in its first season as head coach, but made major strides this season as Green (27–8) finished second in AAC.
He will replace Darian Davis, who left climbers to take over in Indiana last week. The devries was only in MorGantown for one season, which took the climbers in a record of 19–13.
Hodge said in a statement, “It is very respectful and humble that I accept the status of prominent men at West Virginia University.” “I have such respect for the cruelty, patience and pride of the people of West Virginia, and I hope we can reflect how our team competes in court.
“… We believe that we have everything that we need to succeed and challenge for Big 12 Championships and are ready to compete against the country’s best coaches and best teams.”
In the last five years, Northern Texas has only protected the second best scoring behind Houston in the country. Meen Green finished third in that category this season, allowing less than 60 points per game.
Before joining Mcasland employees in Arkansas State and then North Texas, Hodge had experience as an assistant coach in Colorado State and Southern Miss and spent time as a head coach at Midland College and Paris Junior College.
He has a career record of 192–47 (.803) in seven sessions as head coach.
“You will see that he will win in Big 12,” Red Reders McCasland said about Hodge on Wednesday. “And it will not happen what other people think. It will be at the highest level. And I am not keen to play her, but I am eager to go with her on this journey, because I love her. And I love her because she is as a husband, and she is as a father and she is as a friend.”
West Virginia’s roster makeover will have to undergo its third straight season. Five players from the current roster have entered the NCAA transfer portal, including four beginnings.
