250,000 people participated in funeral service Pope Francis On Saturday morning at St. Peter Square in Vatican, the late Catholic Church leader was taken to Papal Basilica of St. Mary Major (Santa Maria Magir) in Rome. At what time was the funeral of Pope Francis?
The funeral of Pope Francis began shortly after the local time (4 pm, 1 pm Pacific) in the Vatican, outside the Basilica of St. Peter. The ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Jiovani Batista Ray, Dean of Cardinals College.

Where will Pope Francis be buried?
At the end of the funeral service, there was a final praise prayer, then a procession began bringing the Pope’s coffin to the Basilica of St. Mary Major (Santa Maria Magior) in Rome for burial.
