Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Okland County Health Division confirmed the first measles case in Okalland County on 14 March, and the state is aware of eight cases this year.
“This year’s first case of measles in Virginia reminds how easily this highly infectious disease can spread, especially with international travel,” said Laurie Forlano of VDH epidemics.
Forlano said that MMR vaccination is the best rescue against measles and is “safe and highly effective” in protecting people and preventing outbreaks.
Two doses of vaccine are given to provide protection of a lifetime.
“We urge virginis, especially those who plan to travel, talk to your health care provider to check their vaccination status and get MMR vaccine if necessary,” he said.

People who receive a measles vaccine (either measles, kanthamala and rubella (MMR) vaccine or other measles-ice vaccine) may be at risk of measles development.
However, those who received two doses of measles or before 1957 were preserved and they do not need to take any action.
In Virginia, about 95% of the kindergarters are fully vaccinated.
