The win is 19 -year -old Goff’s first career Grand Slam and 23 -time Major Champion Serena Williams made the first American teenager to win the US Open after winning the title in 1999.
“I think I am in shock at the moment,” a emotional cowf said after his victory. “God puts you through tribulation and testing, and it makes this moment sweet as I would imagine.”
He thanked his family, his team and “those who did not believe me.”
Bidding for its second major title of the year, soon the women’s world number 1 Sabalenka accelerated in the first set, broke the service of Gauf three times to win 6–2.
However, chanting “Let’s Go Coco” with the packed crowd, Gauf raised his level in the second set, eventually to force a third set to take it 6-3 before a break up.
A lock-in goff controlled the third set, going up to a double break for his first Grand Slam title in an inch. Although Sabalenka took the next two matches, Gauf closed the match to win the title to become a 12th teenager in the US Open History to win the title.
“I don’t know, I just knew that if I did not give all this, I had no shot in winning,” Goff said how he got the strength of the rally after leaving the first set.
In his run in the final, the athlete lost the first set of a match twice, once in the first round against Laura Seigamund and again in the third round against Elis Martens.

With a win, Goff became the third American teenager to win the US Open title, joining Williams and Tracy Austin. He is ready to go up to number 3 in the WTA single rankings, and co-not. 1 in couple with compatriot Jessica Pegula.

Goff also stated that reporters helped her parents when she would be very self-critical, which she won or lost or not.
“I used to put my tennis and compare it like my self-value. When I will lose, I think, you know, I did not deserve it as a person. So it always reminds my parents that they love me, even if I helped me today. ,
Asked by the importance of being the latest black woman to win a singles title of women, Gauf credited former champions such as Venus Williams and Serena Williams, who “paved the way for me to be here” and said she was inspired to see Slone Stephens winning the US Open in 2017.
“I hope another girl can see it and believe that they can do it, and hopefully they can be named on the trophy,” she said.
Meanwhile, despite the disadvantage, the Belarusian star will move to number 1 in the WTA singles rankings on Monday, which will end the 75-consecutive week reign of IGA ąwiątek.
Sabalanka congratulated her contestant and said, “I hope we will play in many more finals” and call Gauf “amazing”.
In return, American congratulated Sabalenka on the increase in number 1 position. “Aryana is an incredible player,” she said. “Congratulations on the number 1 rankings, it is well qualified.”
At a news conference after the match, Sabalenka stated that the loss was a “lesson” for him and started “overthinking” during the second set.

A first grand slam for goff
The last meeting with Goff and Sabalenka was in the quarterfinals of Indian wells in March, in which Belarusi comfortably won 6-4 6–0. Saturday’s final was a completely separate competition, however, Gauf has improved rapidly in six months that has passed since that defeat.
The 19 -year -old has won three WTA titles this season, including the biggest career of his career in Cincinnati just before the US Open.
The competition was the second Grand Slam final of Goff’s career after reaching the French Open final in 2022, where she was rapidly defeated by IGA świątek.
After his 6-4 7-5 semi-final win over Karolin Muchova, Goff talked about improving her mindset, which is now able to conflict with a person staining by Imposter syndrome to believe that she is able to struggle with the world’s best players.
She is not only struggling, but can now be considered one of the best players in the world after this victory.
Goff was facing a combined rival – the best player in the world. Until her semi -finals against Madison Keys, Sabalenka dominated in New York – not leaving a set and not losing more than five games in a match.
However, despite the defeat, Run in Sabalenka’s finals reduced a remarkable year, winning three titles – which included its first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and the sixth Masters 1000 in Madrid.
