Washington: The Trump administration has announced that it would end exile security for thousands of Afghans and Cameroonies living in the US, a spokesman of Homeland Security on Friday said.
The eligible for the estimated 14,600 Afghan temporary protected position (TPS) will now lose it in May. There was access to the position of about 7,900 Cameron, but will lose it in June after expiration.
US President Donald Trump, a Republican, took over illegally to take charge illegally to existing the record numbers of migrants living in the US. At the same time, he has moved to strip the migrants of temporary legal protection rapidly, widening the trap of potential exile.
Trump has criticized the high level of illegal immigration under the former Democratic President who Biden and argued that Biden’s programs are more than a valid authority to offer legal status to the programs.
The TPS program is available to individuals whose countries have experienced natural disasters, armed conflicts or other extraordinary events. This situation, which lasts for 6–18 months, can be renewed by the Homeland Security Secretary and provides exile protection and access to the work permit.
Spokesperson Trisia McLaglin said in a statement that Homeland’s Security Secretary Christie Nom determined that situations in Afghanistan and Cameron did not justify the protected situation.
Trump tried to abolish most of the TPS nominations during his 2017-2021 presidential presidency, but was blocked by federal courts. In late March, an American District Judge stopped his effort to end the situation for Venezuela, stating that the migrants of the officers depicted as “smack of racism” as criminals of migrants.
Parole canceled
The US vacated over 82,000 Afghans from Afghanistan after the Taliban acquisition in 2021, including over 70,000 who entered the country with temporary “parole”, which allowed a legal entry for two years.
The temporary protected status offered another Avenue of safety. DHS said in 2023 that the designation was warned in Afghanistan due to armed conflict and rebellion.
Advocates have said in recent times that migrants entering the US through a biden-era app known as CBP One, including Afghans, have ordered the cancellation of their temporary parole and leave the country within seven days.
McLaglin confirmed this week that the department had canceled the parole of some migrants, stating that DHS was “exercising its discretionary rights.” He did not provide data on the number of deliberations.
He said in a statement, “The affected persons are urged to be self-reliant voluntarily using the CBP home app.”
