UNESCO has officially removed itself from the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG), Pakistan, issued a firm explanation against its name, brief and unauthorized use of logo.
The statement follows a series of complaints from the former members of the UNESCO-in-law advisory committee, which increases the alarm on the misleading implications of the ICTSG of the ongoing partnership with the United Nations Agency.
The UNESCO sports section has confirmed that there is currently no affiliation or cooperation with ICTSG. The organization has taken rapid action, formally directed by ICTSG President Mr. Khalil Ahmed Khan to immediately stop all the uses, branding and all the use of UNESCO on their website, social media platforms and official documents.
In particular, Mr. Khan previously presided over the Advocate Advisory Committee on Traditional Games and Sports, until this is clear in its disintegration in 2019. Since then, UNESCO has emphasized transparency and moral rule, especially important.
Philip Muller-Worth, head of the Sport section within UNESCO’s social and anthropology, reiterated the commitment to the integrity of the agency, stating: “We urge all related stakeholders that ICTSG’s affiliation claims with UNESCO are completely unfounded. UNESCOs are committed to protecting their identity and mission.”
UNESCO has asked all organizations involved in traditional sports and sports to disseminate explanations widely, urging vigilance against misinformation and unauthorized representation.
This step confirms UNESCO’s broad mission to protect cultural heritage and maintain accountability in global sports initiatives.
