Omar Akmal publicly supported Babar Azam amidst his growing investigation as his batting, but suggested that the former national captain should step down as the leader of Peshawar Zalmi in HBL Pakistan Super League to pay attention to re -finding his rhythm completely with the bat.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Pakistan stood firm in support of Test cricketer Omar Akmal Babar Azam, challenging critics who have questioned the batsman’s place in national setup. Accepting Babur’s current conflicts, Akmal confirmed his class and value for Pakistan cricket.
“Yes, he is going through a difficult phase, but he is still the best batsman in Pakistan,” Akmal said. “Remember, they proudly led the team for five years. The form comes and goes, but the class remains forever.”
He cited the example of Virat Kohli of India, who took a break during his lean magic and rejuvenated. Akmal advised Babur to meet the Pakistan Cricket Board President Mohsin Naqvi, the chief selector and the current captain, and requested a two -month break from all the formats.
Akmal said, “They should ask for two months rest – no cricket, just training with family and time. When he returns, he will be fresh and will be back in form.”
Akmal also recommended that Babur franchisees especially abandon leadership in PSL in cricket to allow themselves to bat without external pressure.
“Like the PCB removed him as a national captain, he should also be left as a Zalmi captain,” he said. “He needs to bat independently, enjoy your cricket and play without pressure.”
Akmal refers to Sahibzada Farhan’s recent performances, which support their points about the need for players to suit them. “Farhan is excellent because he is playing where he is comfortable,” Akmal said. “When the players get their favorite role, they perform. The same thing applies to Babur.”
He suggested that both team management and public expectation have obstructed Babur’s performance and reduced those burden can help revive their form.
