London: UK officials were worried about possible environmental damage On Tuesday and a day after a cargo ship, a tanker hit a tanker in search of a response, which was transporting a jet fuel to the US Army from East England, installing both ships.
The US-Flagged tanker MV Stena Bedag was widespread by the Portugal-regulated container ship Solong on Monday, inserted from a broken tank to the jet fuel north Sea. The collision burnt the explosion and the fire for more than 24 hours. Footage filmed by a helicopter on Tuesday morning revealed that the fire was largely seen exiting the tanker, with a big gush towards its port.
The UK Coast Guard Agency said on Tuesday that “Solong is still frightening and the fire in Staina Bedag has reduced considerably.” It said that cargo ship was flowing away from the tanker to the south, and the exclusion area was placed around both ships (around one mile). The government said that the cause of the collision was being investigated, but there was no sign of dishonesty.
Government minister Matthew Penikuk said that it was a “rapidly growing and dynamic situation.”
He said that air quality reading was normal and coast guard units are well equipped to include and spread any oil spread, “with equipment, including booms deployed from vessels to prevent the oil spread, and the aircraft that can spray the dispenser on a spread.
The collision launched a major rescue operation in the foggy North Sea by Lifeboats, Coast Guard aircraft and commercial ships.
One of all the members of the 37 crew of both ships was safely brought to ashes in a port of about 150 miles (240 km) a port north of London, with no major injuries. A crew member was missing, and the Coast Guard closed the search late on Monday night.
The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch has begun to collect evidence that to hit Solong, Scotland, Scotland, Rotterdam, Netherlands, to hit a stable tanker, which was due to anchoring about 10 miles (16 km) away from the English coast.
The investigation will be led by the US and Portugal, the countries that the ships have been flagged off.
The 183 meter (596-foot) Stena Imaculat was acting as part of the US government’s tanker security program, a group of commercial ships that could be contracted to carry fuel for the army when needed. Its operator, US-based maritime management firm Crole said that it was carrying 220,000 barrels of jet-e1 fuel in 16 tanks, of which at least one was broken.
The company said it was not clear how much fuel was leaked in the sea.
Solong owner, shipping company Arnant Ras, said that unlike earlier reports, the vessel was not carrying sodium cyanide containers, which could produce harmful gas when combined with water. It said that four empty containers had earlier chemicals.
The company said in a statement, “Our team is actively associated with all local authorities, and we will work with cleanup teams to ensure that every effort is made to reduce more impacts on the maritime environment.”
Greenpeace UK stated that it was too early to assess the limit of any environmental damage by the collision, which was near the busy fishing grounds and major seabard colonies.
Environmentalists stated that oil and chemicals took a risk to marine life, including whales and dolphins and birds, including puffins, ganets, and guicamots that live on coastal rocks.
Tom Web, a senior lecturer in marine ecosystem and protection at Sheffield University, said wildlife with that stretch of the coast “is of immense biological, cultural and economic importance.”
“Apart from the property of marine life which exists throughout the year, this time of the year is important for many migrant species,” he said.
Alex Lukayanov, which spreads oil in the university, said that environmental effects would depend on many factors, including “spill size, weather conditions, sea currents, water waves, air patterns and types of oil.”
“This particular phenomenon is disturbing because it consistently involves oil, which gradually breaks into the water,” he said. “Environment toll can be severe.”
