The US on Tuesday added dozens of Chinese technology companies in its export blacklist in its first such attempt under the Donald Trump administration, as it doubles to reduce Beijing’s artificial intelligence and advanced computing capabilities.
The Bureau of Industry and Security of the US Department of Commerce added 80 organizations to a “unit list”, with more than 50 from China, stopping American companies from supply to those in the list without government permits.
Companies were allegedly blacklisted to work contrary to the interests of US national security and foreign policy, the agency said, as part of its efforts to further limit access to Beijing’s accessel computing technology, which can process a large amount of data on very high speeds, as well as quantum technologies.
The Department of Commerce said that dozens of Chinese institutions were targeted for their alleged involvement in developing advanced AI, supercomputers and high -performance AI chips for military purposes, two firms were supplying to approved institutions such as Huawei and its associated chipmekar Hisilican.
