A phone manufacturer can rarely surprise you, but Oppo and OnePlus have done this with their folding phones. OnePlus Open – OnePlus’s first foldable and based on Oppo Find N3 – is widely considered the best folding phone Since its launch in October 2013.
The successor meant that OPO Find N5 was. I spent last month using Oppo’s latest folding phone, and this is my favorite folding phone right now. It provides a much better experience on the OnePlus Open, but there is a problem: you cannot buy it.
Just a few days before the Find N5 launch, OnePlus announced that it would not launch a folding phone in the US this year, essentially the US market to Samsung and Google. I have used Find N5 for the previous month, and it stands in many ways, such as the original OnePlus Open. Why this will be the right OnePlus Open 2 here.
Why Oppo N5 is my favorite foldable
Oppo has completed the hardware design of Oppo Find N5. At 4.21 mm thick, when it is the world’s thinnest folding phone, it is still the fastest charging on the main display of any folding phone, the largest battery and the smallest crease.
The triple-camera setup has two flagship-curvature main and telephoto sensor and an ultravide that leaves something to be desired. The 50MP main sensor is comparable to Oppo Find X8 Pro, as is 50MP telephoto, which provides 3x optical zoom and can also take excellent photos in 30x zoom. The 8MP ultravide is technically downgrade from the OnePlus Open, but it is only one of the few downside for a compelling product.

The 8.12-inch main display is the largest of any folding phone and the iPad is larger than the 8-inch display found on mini. Like the OnePlus Open, the Find N5 is equipped with open canvas, an essential multitasking feature that expands your screen to run many large app Windows side-by-side. Both displays also support the use of stylus, unique achievement to find N5 than competition.
The Oppo Find N5 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor-7-core version, though-and 16 GB RAM with 256 GB or 512 GB storage. The 5,600 mAh battery is the largest in any book-style folding phone, with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
Oppo Find N5 is one of the most feature-rich phones that I have ever used, so I believe it was a mistake not to launch it in more markets. There is just a big problem to overcome.
How N5 compared the competition

The appeal of Find N5 is how much it extends the folding phone from the major competition. It determines thickness, battery life and new expectations for charging, which brings folding phone cameras closer to non-fold competition.
When 4.21 mm is thick, it is diluted compared to the Galaxy Z fold 6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro fold when it is twisted. The latest foldable measures of Samsung are found to be 5.6 mm thick and N5 is found to be more than 3 mm thicker than Oppo. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 Pro fold is 5.1 mm thick and 10.5 mm when folded, it is thinner than Samsung’s folding phone, but is much thicker than Oppo.
Till finding the N5, it was widely accepted that the folding phones would be thick, but the Find N5 is the lowest compromise and has changed my expectations for future folding phones. It is just 0.6 mm thick compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, and I have often made a mistake in both my pockets.
The camera will not defeat the best phone cameras, but other book-style folding phones are equal to. Here is how the camera pile up till the main competition:
Find Oppo N5 | Galaxy jade fold 6 | Pixel 9 Pro Fold | |
Main camera | 50MP, f/1.9, 21 mm PDAF, OIS | 50MP, f/1.8, 23 mm Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS | 48MP, f/1.7, 25 mm Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS |
Ultravide camera | 8MP, f/2.2m, 116 ° | 12MP, f/2.2, 123 ° | 10,5MP, f/2.2, 127 ° |
Telephoto camera | 50MP, f/2.7, 75 mm 3x Optical Zoom, OIS | 10MP, f/2.7, 66 mm 3x Optical Zoom, OIS | 10.8mp, f/3,1, 112 mm 5X Optical Zoom, OIS |
Selfie camera (cover) | 8MP, f/2.4, 21 mm | 10MP, f/2.2, 24 mm | 10MP, f/2.2, 23 mm |
Selfie camera (main) | 8MP, f/2.4, 21 mm | 4MP, f/1.8, under performance | 10MP, f/2.2, 23 mm |
The main camera in all devices is quite standard, and all provide 3x or 5X optical zoom through telephoto or periscope telephoto lenses. All three companies have opted to use the same camera sensors on ultravide, which are less capable than the 50MP sensors used by their non-folding cousins.
Find the biggest issue N5 with Oppo

My Oppo Find N5 reviews had some negatives, such as ultravide camera and the fastest charging speed require an ownership charger. Nevertheless, the biggest issues are availability and lack of price. Simply put, it is expensive.
Outside China, Find N5 is currently available only in Singapore and costs SG $ 2,499, which is equivalent to $ 1,870 US $. However, the raw cost of a high bill-off-materials cost-as well as local costs around marketing, logistics and supply chains, as well as local taxes, fees and tariffs, this means that it will be more expensive in the US.
OnePlus, in particular, is known to offer more value for money in its devices. These devices usually have equal value with better features or provide the same feature for consumers at a better price.
The high cost of the material in Oppo means N5 means to launch it at a higher price than the competition, which goes against the characteristics that make OnePlus successful. Finally, I suspect that it was an important reason that the N5 was not launching in more markets.
Price is still the last limit to cross

Oppo Find N5 has an ideal form factor for folding phones and ticks boxes for the right folding phone in terms of design, battery life and productivity. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same problem as the competition: the best folding phone can spend double from the price of a non-folding phone.
The Pixel 9 Pro fold begins at $ 1,799, while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 begins at $ 1,899 in America. While the two companies offer a lot of trade-in deals and promotion through carrier partners, they are still very expensive for most people.
These will eventually be the top products until the folding phone technology is available at a low price. This eventually disappoints consumers because it means not to innovate as much in the competition, and we are not close to the best folding phones that are accessible to more people.
