In the Galaxy S25 launch, Samsung also teased – and confirmed – its upcoming slim phone. The rumor of thickness being less than 6 mm, the Galaxy S25 Edge is ready to be the thinnest candy bar of Samsung, and potentially attracts our attention from the iPhone 17 air, which is still in the phase of the rumor. Next to the launch, new details have come to light on how the Galaxy S25 Edge can be lighter, and it is to re -look at an old design option with Samsung.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is asked to dig the glass to your back for durability. Instead, Sammobile claims that there is special information about that material instead. According to the report, Samsung is selecting a ceramic material instead, which will be complemented by an aluminum frame.
Whether it is completely ceramic or partially associated with glass, it is yet to be seen. But either in the case, if the report is true, the back of the Galaxy S25 Edge must have a lower and more durable weight than a standard glass back, which includes a single one reinforced with some advanced protective glass.
Ceramic on phone are not new

Ceramic backs on the phone are not completely new, and at the end of 2010, smartphones were of significant interest among brands. Brands such as LG, Essential, HTC, and Xiaomi played with ideas for their leading models. Even Samsung offered a black ceramic version of its Galaxy S10 Plus in 2019, and proved to be more durable than its glass counterpart. Despite this, ceramic as a content for the phone is actually taken as a truly complex manufacturing process, which increases the cost.
Ceramic is not a single substance, but a class of substances that have a crystalline structure – more symmetrical orientation – at the molecular level. This makes them more rigid by keeping them thin and lighter. According to the definition, anything made with soil and then an oven is a ceramic, including the porcelain used for crockery.
Ceramic used on gadgets, such as Galaxy S10 Plus, are relatively more advanced and require extensive engineering. Brands have previously used zirconia (girconium dioxide), which are also used for jewelry and dental implants between other applications. It remains to be seen which route Samsung takes.
With this addition, the Galaxy S25 age above the Samsung base and plus variants may be able to position, and even equal it with S25 Ultra. The S25 Edge is already expected to match Ultra in terms of performance and camera capabilities, although the thin profile may worry about those who want to record videos or games for a long time.
The phone is rumored to launch the phone for some time in 2025, which leaves us with only a few months, before we know about the choice of Samsung’s content.
