Amidst his Earth-collecting power and mainstream appeal, Gervonta “Tank” Davis claims that it is the current face of boxing that comes with significant merit. He proved to be a “box office” with his 2023 battle against Ryan Garcia, currently sitting as the fifth largest gate in US boxing history.
The current WBA is a lightweight champion, 30-year-old Davis, a three-division champion, making its way through rank, claiming an extraordinary 93% co–world ratio. After starting his career as Floid Mayweather’s protag, the “tank” is broken on its own, packing the arena across the United States and leaving a mark of destruction behind it. She is a proven pay-fierce attraction with Kennelo Alverages, but Davis has more attractive options for future megafights.
Brooklyn, after protecting the Saturday title against Lamont Roach Junior at the Barclays Center in New York, (8 am ET, Prime Video PPV), we look at the best performances of Davis, which helped shape his career, including his demolition, Leo Santa Kruz, and other people.
April 22, 2023 – KO7 vs Ryan Garcia
A large-scale confrontation between two young knockout artists was the success of a huge box-office (a reported 1.2 million pay-per-verse boues and a more than a more than a $ 22 million gate) that firmly emphasizes Davis with Kennel in “Face of Boxing” conversation after his seventh-round stops win. In the much awaited battle, the leading, Davis and Garcia had abolished 88% of their opponents, and very few people hoped that the fight required a judge’s opinion, both promised to end it within 12 rounds.
Garcia started fast, stepping on the gas and firing panches from the opening bail to Davis, landing 10 out of 53 in the first two rounds, as Davis patiently waited for a inauguration. He found it in round 2 for just one minute and drilled Garcia with a counter left hand that drowned him on the canvas. This first Power Panch Davis landed in the battle, in which Davis performed extraordinary patience against his high-level rival. Garcia made it on her feet and continued to fight Davis in the next four rounds. In Round 7, Davis saved the body a straight, which hardly anyone saw in the arena, but a Garcia definitely felt. A delayed response drowned Garcia to the knee, and was immediately counted.
Before the fight, for all his Bravo, Davis surprisingly admitted that he was going to the fight with Garcia.
“I was nervous,” said Davis. “It is just looking at me that I am knocking him so many people. I put it out of so many people in the gym. I saw that she knocks so many people on the clip.”
But this time Garcia will not get that KO. Instead, it was Davis that stood long in front of a sold out of 20,842 fans in T-Mobile Arena.
October 31, 2020 – KO6 vs Leo Santa Cruz
In the perspective of many, this was the first real test of Davis’s career. He would be stepping into the ring with a four-division champion, which was an incredibly active puncture and can give the notorious affordable Davis that fits for a long time for the fight. To not mention that Santa Cruz proved exceptionally sustainable throughout his career, 39 had never knocked into quarrels. It changed when he met Davis and the world realized what the power of Davis was.
As expected, Santa Cruz was busy with the opening bell, thrown to 241 panchs in 160 of Davis through four rounds. Santa Cruz was ahead in the scorecard through three rounds, but Davis was inch close and close to a fight-end punch. For the credit of Santa Cruise, he forced never back back and forced Davis to a fire, while absorbing the punishment by excluding the punishment.
In the sixth round, Davis certainly landed the most violent knockout of his career. With 30 seconds in the round, Davis had a Santa Cruise back against the corner. Santa Kruz removed the trio of the right hand, the last Davis completely ducks and removed a vicious left uppercase. The lights for Santa cruise stopped before her body crashed on the canvas in a terrible scene. Knockout converted Davis into stardom and strengthened her as one of the most bright young talents in boxing.
June 15, 2024 – KO8 vs Frank Martin
Martin was facing the fourth consecutive undestened fighter Davis. Although talented, Martin did not take the same name value as other potential opponents for Davis and was seen as a high-risk, low-inam option from Garcia knockout winning.
Once again, Davis left for a slow start and lost each of the first three rounds on the judges’ scorecard. Martin continuously won the exchange with Davis, steering about the power of the Baltimore Fighter. However, until the fourth round, Davis began to shut down the distance and began to land with his vigorous electric punches. It was an impressive performance of patience by Davis, which gave Martin a false sense of security by standing in front of him during exchanges and establishing another powerful sequence, which led to his 28th knockout win.
“I knew he was going to get tired down,” Davis later said. “That’s what I was doing. Stand up there, be a goal so that he could tired himself, and once he got tired of himself, I started separating him.”
In the eighth round, Davis implicated Martin into the corner and shocked the “The Ghost” with a left uppercase. Martin was out on his feet, but a wicked straight left hand followed by another memorable battle-sequence from Davis.
December 5, 2021 – UD12 vs Isaac Cruz
The only fight in this list that did not end within the distance is for good reason.
Davis was originally ready to face Rolondo “Roli” Romero. But when Romero was pulled from the battle due to allegations of sexual harassment (later without accusation) two weeks before bout, Davis decided to keep a date against a replacement rival. Cruise took very little name value as an alternative, but 18 was unbeaten in continuous quarrels, including victory over Diego Magdaleno and Francisco classes. The Davis was an important betting favorite to win the battle, but it never became physical due to an injury to the hand during the fight and was definitely more difficult than the cruise anticipated.
Davis was forced to place his boxing skills on a performance and shut down a charging body attack from Cruise, who pressed Davis with an early bell in a neep-end-and-catch affair that he won unanimously. This was the first time that fans had a chance to fight Davis, which mainly away from the back foot and installed the counters instead of chasing a knockout. Cruise was tireless, but Davis beautifully boxed in the second part of the fight, before making enough to earn a winning scores of 115โ113, 115โ113 and 116โ112.
The distance has not gone since Davis.
January 14, 2017 – TKO7 vs Jose Pedaraja
Davis exploded through vague opposition with a record of 16โ0 to this point of his career, and one of them came through a win knockout. Being impressive, the questions were about how good Davis would be against a high-caliber opponent. Davis got a chance to prove himself against the then IBF Junior Lightweight Champion Pedraja and passed a test with flying colors.
Pedraja was undefeated in her career and wanted to protect the third vacant title against Andrey Climov 18 months ago. Davis entered the battle as an underdog, but reverse the betting lines with a huge inaugural round, where he shook Puerto Ricon several times with hooks and uppercases. Against long Pedraja, Davis managed to take off the uppercase regularly and perform great time and punch placement. Pedraja adjusted to return his way to the battle, but Davis settled in an area and waited for the inauguration to open with patriotism.
The moment came in the seventh round when Davis ignored a cruel right hook, which almost sent Peedraja out of the ring. Pedraja defeated the count, but was not in size to continue as Davis won his first major world title and strengthened himself as a future star in the game.
