Indian-origin NASA astronaut Sunita Williams has returned to Earth after an unexpected nine-month stay International Space Station (ISS). She returned to the planet with a splash in water away from the coast of Florida, closing her mission after being an unexpected long stay.
Williams, with his colleague Buch Wilmor, originally to test the Starlineer spacecraft of Boeing to fly in the ISS in June 2024, but complications with the propulsion system of the spacecraft put them into space for longer than expected. Astronauts were eventually handed over to NASA SpaceX Crew -9 MissionWhich took him home for his most awaited arrival.
Sunita Williams’s family in India expects an astronaut for a sweet time in India
According to NDTV, Williams’ family expressed happiness over his safe return. Falguni Pandya, her sister -in -law said, “That moment was real”. He confirmed that Williams would visit India soon, “We do not have accurate dates, but they are definitely going to come to India soon.”
Talking about astronauts returning to Earth, his family living in India looked excited, happy and eager to spend time together after such a long period. “We are also planning to go on vacation together. The family is going to have a lot of time,” he said.

Sunita’s cousin also shared that he sent a popular Indian Sweet, Cashew Katali for Williams for her birthday on 19 September, when the astronaut celebrated her 59th birthday in space. “She was very excited. Indian original astronaut Space was very happy to eat his favorite Indian sweet, we are sure that when she comes back to her roots in India, there will be much more.
Williams has a deep connection with India
Falguni shared about an astronaut’s special relationship with India and said, “India is his father’s ancestral land,” mentioning Williams’ father Deepak Pandya, who came from Gujarat. “She feels in love with India and Indians, and I know she will come back. It is just a matter of time, schedule and logistics,” as reported by NDTV.
PM Modi writes a special letter for Williams
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his praise for Williams, writing a letter to the astronaut on 1 March, expressing how proud the Indian people are on their achievements.
PM Modi wrote, “1.4 billion Indians have always been very proud of your achievements. Recent developments have yet re -displayed your inspirational luck and perseverance.” He also expressed his curiosity to meet Williams, saying, “After your return, we are eager to see you in India. It would be a pleasure for India to host your most magnificent daughters.
