Whether they accept it or not, previous research suggests that most of the parents are really favorite children.

A recent study by the Brigham Young University (BYU) at Utah examined the reasons for showing the bias of the parents, an incident dubbed the parents’ difference treatment (PDT).

To do this, he collected a large set of existing studies conducted between August 2015 and April 2022, according to the university press release.

In many databases, discoveries for words such as “Parents’ bias,” brother -in -law “and” differentiated parenting “inspired researchers for at least 243 studies. After implementing some criteria, the pool compressed to 30.

According to the study, the youngest brothers and sisters often get preferential treatment, but older children are given more freedom. (Istock)

The team also approached researchers around the world and identified 14 more datasets with unpublished or unique data.

Researchers then analyzed patterns related to symptoms such as birth sequence, gender and personality to conclude about PDT.

Fox News Digital spoke to discussion on the findings, Professor Alex Jensen, Professor of the School of Family Life, published in the magazine, a psychological bulletin magazine.

According to Jensen, daughters are given preference treatment, although children did not consider themselves.

A father caught his two young children.

The lead study author said, “I wondered that both mothers and father favored the daughters. We felt that father would favor sons.” (Istock)

“I am surprised that both mothers and father favored daughters,” the researcher said. “We felt that father would favor sons.”

One reason can be evolutionary, he said. “In many previous societies, sons were a safety trap as the age of parents. The sons could provide physical resources to help them.”

“Parents should work when they are open to listen to the perspective of their children without being defensive.”

In modern Western societies, daughters are more likely to take care of aging parents, Jensen said.

“In this way, parents can store ‘social capital’ with their daughters, providing later care with the ability of daughters.”

During childhood, he said, sons are more inclined to play out in large groups, and daughters indoors with small groups.

Birth order appears to be a factor, the youngest brothers and siblings often get preference treatment. (Istock)

Jensen told Fox News Digital, “In the last several decades, parents have become less and less inclined to allow their children to play outside without supervision.” “Daughters, on average, can be more favorable for current parenting culture, and thus be easy for parents.”

Elder brothers and sisters, however, according to Jensen, are given more autonomy and freedom. The same treatment lived in adulthood, found in the study.

More agreed and responsible children are also favorite. “I think it’s easy to parents,” Jensen said.

“Daughters, on average, can be more favorable for current parenting culture and thus be easy for parents,” Jensen said. (Istock)

“For example, an agreed child will be more likely to do what is asked by the parents. A dutiful child will be more likely to do his homework, their works … or should be aware of and their needs around them.”

Looking forward, Jensen hopes how parents treat their children and consequently the effect may be able to take steps to tap her in their children’s feelings better.

Many years ago a study suggested that if children understand why they are treated differently, then differences do not matter as much according to the researcher.

“In some cases, I will argue that the children what they think is more important,” he said. “Parents should work when they are open to listen to the perspective of their children without being defensive.”
