England Test captain Ben Stokes may remember the next few rounds of the county season, but according to his county coach Ryan Campbell, Rahbing Stokes is “working” to re-achieve his optimal fitness for a busy Test season, including five-testing series at home and Ashes tour for Australia.
Stokes tore his hamstring for the second time in five months, just before Christmas in New Zealand. But he has returned to England to join his Durham team colleagues in the pre-season. Campbell explained in detail on his preparation: “What we know about Stockcie is that he is working with his butt almost every single day. The man had surgery and the next day, the weight was to lift, which I could not believe. He sets the bar, wherever he is.”
He was seen sprinting in full tilt and even a few overs were bowled at a low run-up. Campbell said, “He is working with such hardworking and whatever he is doing for England and what he is doing is really exciting for the fans of England. For fans of Durham, if he is to play a game, then Great,” said Campbell.
Stokes is not the only Durham cricketer who is on the path of return. Both Fellow Quick Mark Wood and Bridan Cars are prime to figure out if they are fully fit against India, it is also being evaluated. Wood had a knee surgery in early March, which excluded him for four months and it is unlikely that he figures against India. Cars had hurt an attractive leg. Campbell said, “We know about their foot problems for a year. It is not new, but if he is going to play a lot of Test cricket, then he needs to get it properly.”
“I think Bridon is probably the number one priority for England. He is born for that kind of stuff in test cricket. There are 11 tests in summer and winter, and I think he is going to be number one in England list to make sure that he is ready for it.”
A relief, however, may be a jofra -archer. He had not completed a Test match since 2021, but a brilliant new ball burst showed a glimpse of re -gaining his old enmity in the game against Chennai Super Kings.
