Danish superstar shuttler Victor Excelsen on Saturday confirmed that he was ready for a magic on the sideline from badminton action as he has decided to undergo surgery for his frequent back problems. However, the two -time Olympic champion confirmed that he still intends to return to action.
“After consulting with my medical team, I have decided to undergo endoscopic treatment for the issues behind me next week,” Axleson posted on social media. “While this means that I will need a few weeks for rehabilitation after surgery, I believe that I will come back strongly. I still feel that I have a lot of badminton, and I am committed to doing everything you need to fully return to court completely.”
After losing the first round in the prestigious All England in Birmingham this month against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chuni Yi, Excelsen said that he had been working with severe back/nervous pain for several months, and that there were many days where my body does not allow me to go to this point.

He said, “I am surrounded by highly capable people, and I am hoping that I can train again and make pain free competition. Thanks for all your support-it really means a lot to me,” he wrote.
Earlier this year, at the India Open, where he fought indifferently and lacks physical sharpness to win the title, Axlesen said that he had to push himself to find inspiration again after his Paris Gold last year. “I have completed everything I wanted to complete … twice,” Axlesen told the Indian Express. “But to keep hungry, I have to set myself a new goal. And for me, it’s to fulfill my full potential. In my mind, I am not at the peak yet. If you look at the big picture, I can’t come back in 10 years and say that I am going to give it a chance.” Former World No. 1 is currently no 3 in the world.
