New Orleans – Saints are hiring Brandon Steel, head coach of Los Angeles Chargers, as their defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN’s Adam Skeffer and Jeremy Founder.
Steel will rent the third coordinator of Saints Coach Kelan Moore this week. Sources said ESPN the monk is expected to appoint Eagles quarterback coach Dag Nusmier as his aggressive coordinator. He offered the status of the coordinator of special teams for Phil Galliano, who was the coordinator of Saints Assistant Special Teams under Darren Rizi.
Both the stell and the nusmier have a previous relationship with the Moore and are considered a possible target for vacant positions for several weeks.
Moore was an aggressive coordinator in the previous season, and he and Nusmeer helped the team win the Super Bowl Lix against the heads of the Canasus City on 9 February. Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP.
Nusmier was an assistant coach under Moore when he was the Dallas Cowboy aggressive coordinator from 2019 to 2022 and during his lonely season with Los Angeles Chargers in 2023.
The 42 -year -old Steeli was the head coach of the chargers from 2021 to 2023 and hired Moore as his aggressive coordinator in his final season. He and the Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco were fired on December 15, 2023, after the start of 5–9 in the season and lost 63–21 to Las Vegas Reders.
Steel spent 2024 season as San Francisco 49ers Assistant Head Coach. Prior to his tenure with Chargers, he was a Los Angeles Rams Defense Coordinator in 2020. Ram led the league to score defense and total defense during the season, which ended 10–6 before the playoffcated NFC Divisional Round.
