Last week, Samsung update-sanskriting a firmware update 1020.7-The best overall soundbar available Samsung HW-Q990D, and closed other 900 series soundbar in EARC mode, made them useless. As originally reported by The Verge, users started posting R/Soundbers on the Reddit, Samsung Forums, and AVS Forum, which happened immediately after telling about what happened. Some digital trend readers who are facing problems also reached us for the answer (thanks Marsel!).
A reaction by a Samsung Forum Moderator in Europe indicated that Samsung AV product experts are aware of the issue and confirmed that it is the result of an OTN (on network) updates, which they have now suspended. According to the moderator, “If your issue is the result of OTN update, it will be necessary to arrange the engineer inspection and repair to resolve it.” It is important to note that this is the purpose for people located in the UK.
We recommend that you turn off the automatic updates, as it is unknown whether those updates have also been suspended in the US and Canada. Apparently, customers updating via USB were not affected by the problem.
Additional reports suggest that the firmware update has also affected the 800 series soundbars (HW-Q800D and HW-S801D).
Hopefully a new firmware update will be provided to fix the problem, and customers will not need to send Samsung back to their soundbar to serve.
We reached Samsung for a statement and any plan for a fix. There will be more information once we will update.
