Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a unilateral Easter ceasefire in Ukraine, which was ordered to abolish enmity at Moscow Time (1500 GMT) at 6 pm on Saturday by the end of Sunday.
Putin told his military chief Valerie Garasimov at a meeting in Kremlin, “Based on human views … the Russian side declares an Easter Trus. I order a restriction for all military activities for this period.”
Putin said, “We believe that Ukraine will follow our example. Also, our soldiers should be ready to remove the possible violations of the Trus and provocation by the enemy,” Putin said.
He said that Garasimov told him to Ukraine “more than 100 … an agreement was signed at not killing the energy infrastructure”.
Russia on Friday left a adjournment on striking the Ukrainian energy target, as each side accused the other of breaking an alleged deal without any formal agreement.
The latest Trus proposal shows “How honest is the ability of Kiv’s readiness, its desire and the ability to participate in a process of peace talks,” Putin said.
The ceasefire for Easter in April 2022 and the previous attempts for the Orthodox Christmas in January 2023 were not implemented when the two sides failed to agree on them.
