Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
Religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other stakeholders will discuss the reports of Moon from across the country during the session to determine the date of the Eidul Fitr ceremony across Pakistan.
The beginning of the ninth and holiest month in the Muslim calendar – as well as the Eid holiday and the month of mourning of Muharram – is determined by looking at the new moon.
Last month, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) estimated the visibility of Ramadan and Showaval Crescent using scientific assessment, astronomical calculations and modern observation data.
According to the astronomical model, Shawwal Moon will appear on March 30, indicating that on March 31, 2025, there will be a decline of Eidul Fitr in Pakistan.
Since the uncontrolled-eye observation of Crescent Moon is a religious obligation to determine the beginning of the holy month, the committee will investigate the testimony from across the country and formally announce the official start of this year’s body.
