What happened? Qualcomm has announced three new chips designed for handheld gaming console at the 2025 Game Developers Conference. Snapdragon G3 General 3 leads the lineup with Tresing and Wi-Fi 7, while Snapdragon G2 General 2, and Snapdragon G1 General 2 SoCS targets cloud gaming market.
The Snapdragon G-series lineup is led by the G3 General 3 SoC, upgraded to Snapdragon G3 X Jean 2. It is specially designed for Android-based handheld gaming devices and supports the lumen lighting system of the unrealistic engine 5. It also provides real-time, hardware-satisfied ray trace with global lights and reflections. G3 GEN 3 chip QHD+ supports resolution and 144hz refresh rates.
The Snapdragon G3 General 3 includes 8-core Cryo CPU containing 1 prime core, 5 performance core and 2 efficiency core. Graphics processing is controlled by an adreno A32 GPU. Qualcomm claims that the chip distributes 30% faster CPU and 28% better graphics performance compared to its predecessor. Connectivity Fastconnect is powered by 7800 modules, which features low delay and increased bandwidth Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7.
The Snapdragon G2 GEN 2 lineup has the second chip, serving as an upgrade in Snapdragon G2 GN 1. Mainly designed for cloud gaming, it supports display resolution up to QHD+ and 144Hz refresh rates, which matches its high-end cybulating.
Snapdragon G2 G2 GEN 2 has an adreno A22 GPU with 1 prime core, 4 performance core, and 8-core Kryo CPU with 3 efficiency core. Like the flagship model, it includes Fastconnect 7800 modules with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. Qualcomm states that the new chip provides 2.3 times faster than its predecessor, CPU performance and 3.8 times faster GPU performance.
Entry-level option, Snapdragon G1 General 2, targets handheld cloud gaming on Android devices. It consists of 8-core Cryo CPUs with 2 performance core and 6 proficiency core, in collaboration with an Adreno A12 GPU. Qualcomm says that G1 GEN 2 provides 80% faster CPU performance and 25% better GPU performance compared to the previous generation.
Unlike the G3 and G2 models, Snapdragon G1 GEN 2 uses Fastconnect 6700 connectivity modules with Wi-Fi 6/6e and Bluetooth 5. On the display side, it supports FHD+ resolution with 144Hz refresh rates.
Tools characterized by these new Snapdragon gaming chips are expected to be launched later in this trimester. Ayaneo, Onexsugar, and Retroid Pockets are among the major brands that have already been confirmed to release new handheld gaming console run by Qualcomm’s latest chips.
