Islamabad: A group of drug pedals took a police officer hostage on Wednesday in Uthal village of Phulgran, a suburban area in Islamabad.
Police sources told Geo News that when they were shot, those applied to the law to take action against drug dealers had entered the area. During the exchange of fire, a police officer was taken hostage.
A citizen was also injured during the incident.
After this incident, a large police contingent was sent to the village to conduct rescue operations.
However, local residents resorted to stone-pelting and allegedly set the police on fire, making it difficult for those who enforced the law. In response, additional police personnel were called from various stations in Islamabad.
So far, security forces have excluded the village, but there is no entry due to resistance from the local people yet.
Earlier in the day, the police of Islamabad started a rift on illegal weapons and drug dealers, arrested 17 suspects in the last 24 hours and registered cases against them.
A spokesperson said that law enforcement officers recovered 11 pistols of various caliber along with the ammunition from the suspects. He said that police teams also seized 7,230 grams of Hashish and 2,275 grams of heroin from drug pedals.
He said that cases have been registered against the arrested persons, and further investigation has been initiated.
The spokesman said that ensuring safety and safety of citizens is the top priority of Islamabad Police.
