New Delhi: Punjab Kings Skipper Shreyas Iyer’s scintillating form has talked about its return to the IPL season, blaming the team’s spin coach Sunil Joshi for Iyer’s revival for Iyer’s “Hunger for Challenges”. Despite being a leader for the IPL 2024 title since its release by Kolkata Knight Riders, Iyer has responded in style with an unbeaten knock of 97 and 52 to start the 2025 season.

Joshi said ahead of the clash against KKR of Punjab Kings, “If you see Shreyas’s contribution to the Champions Trophy, he has become more consistent especially against the spin,” Joshi said ahead of the clash against KKR of Punjab Kings. “He accepts every challenge, every ball. It is the mindset of a top player.”

“They have shown hunger and are ready to accept every challenge. For any player of that caliber, you accept every challenge, every ball. I am sure that he has done some great work behind the curtain. There is a good motion to take forward as a leader too,” Joshi said.
Who is that IPL player?
During the 2025 Champions Trophy, Iyer was a pillar in the mid -order of India, with two half -centuries an average of 48.60 in five matches. Their resurrection is fuel by both mental resolve and technical adjustment – in particular, a more open stance and deep position in the crease to combat a small ball.

Joshi also highlighted Iyer’s leadership development. “He talks to every player – even a net bowler. It creates confidence and shows his care for the team. This is the identity of a real leader.”
Despite returning to the Eden Gardens, where he raised the IPL Trophy last year, Iyer has not shown any signs of emotional overdrive. Joshi said, “Every game is important. The approach remains the same – play to win.”
While speculation recalls Iyer’s potential India for the tour of England, Joshi chose to focus on IPL. “Let’s stick to the IPL. I am not the right person to talk about national selection.”
