The study analyzed open reactions from the national sample of over 2,300 American adults collected in the days after hearing. Using subject modeling, researchers identified 13 different subjects that emerged in the written responses of the participants.
“The hearing provided a unique, real -time opportunity to investigate how Americans responded to the same material at the same time in political division. “It is divided into both biased perceptions and levels of stress, highlight the depth of political polarization in the US,” they say.
Researchers say that it is important to understand the Divisional Participation narratives to address political division and find a general basis on controversial issues.
Their findings contribute to understanding how bias shapes perception and emotional reactions to political events, and suggests the need for further research:
- Factors that strengthen biased perceptions (such as the inspired perception and the role of media in shaping these perceptions); And
- Between biased perceptions and mental health results in various contexts
- Development of partial assumptions over time
The extensive impacts of the study involve to help inform the efforts to combat political polarization, leading to intervention designed to address psychological malnutrition after political events.
“During the period of political polarization, which has intensified in only years since the confirmation of justice Kawanugh, explaining the importance of understanding the biased difference in our result perception and understanding their possible consequences for mental health and political discourses,” Silver is called.
