Najmuddin, a Sheikh, former Foreign Secretary and honored expert in international affairs, died in Karachi on Friday morning at the age of 85 years.
Sheikh served as Foreign Secretary of Pakistan from 1994 to 1997 and was an alumnus of Sindh University and Fletcher School of Law and Dimplomacy at Tofts University in Massachusetts, United States.
His nearly four -decade career in Foreign Service included ambassador roles in Germany, Canada, America and Iran, where he promoted the diplomatic interests of Pakistan.
Famous for his strategic foresight, Shikhe played an important role in shaping the country’s foreign policy and mentioning future diplomats.
International cooperation, regional stability and his unwavering commitment to human rights praised him both nationally and globally, with colleagues praising his honesty professionalism.
Beyond his diplomatic service, he served at the Board of Governors of Strategic Studies, Islamabad, and was the founding member of the Sindh Council of Foreign Relations.
Following the news of Sheikh’s death, the Ministry of External Affairs in Islamabad expressed its deep condolences to his family, friends and all those who knew and worked with him.
The funeral prayer of the late Foreign Secretary was held at DHA after ASR prayer. He was placed to rest in the DHA phase VIII cemetery.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also expressed grief over Sheikh’s death and prayed for the departed soul, praising his diplomatic services for the country.
