A powerful earthquake on Friday killed Myanmar and neighbor Thailand, destroyed buildings, a bridge and a dam. At least 1000 people were killed in Myanmar, where photos and videos of two cities caused widespread losses. In Thailand, at least eight people died in the capital, where a high-growing building under construction collapsed.

In Bangkok, a 33-storey building under construction collapsed near the Chatuchak market. A crane was at the top of the structure when it fell into a cloud of dust. A video posted on social media featured people shouting and running with the fall of the building. Siren’s voice filled Central Bangkok, and heavy traffic gave birth to gridlock roads. The elevated rapid transit system and the metro were closed.
While there was no widespread destruction, tremors brought some dramatic images of the roof swimming pool, which dropped their contents in favor of many huge apartment blocks and hotels in the city.
The area in which an earthquake occurred is seismic active, but earthquakes of this size are not common. It is rare for the tremors felt in Bangkok, which sits on a river delta and has a risk of a moderate earthquake.
According to Defense Minister Fummtham Vichachai, in Bangkok, at least three people were killed and 90 others were missing. He did not provide more information about rescue operations, but the first respondents reported to save seven people from the site.

Rescue operation

Officials in Bangkok declared a disaster sector to allow the city a coordinated response. The metropolitan region has a population of over 17 million, with many people live in high -growing apartments.
India to send relief material
News agency PTI said India would send more than 15 tonnes of relief material to Myanmar after a series of strong earthquakes.
The relief supply will be taken on an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J aircraft from Air Force Station Hindon.
The package includes essential medicines such as tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat food, water purifier, hygiene kit, solar lamps, generator sets and paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves and straps.
10 km focal depth
The US Geological Survey and the GFZ GeoCINES Center in Germany reported that the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) as per initial conclusions. Shallow earthquakes cause more destruction.
In Mandal, many buildings were damaged, including Maa So Yane Math, one of the largest and former royal palaces in the city. In a video posted online, monks on the road were shown just before filming in the monastery. It was not immediately known whether anyone was harmed.
In the south-west of Mandley, a 90-year-old bridge collapsed. Some sections of the highway connecting Yangon, the largest city of Mandle and Myanmar, were also damaged.
Myanmar’s army took power with the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021. The country is now in a civil war which includes long -established armed groups and newly formed democracy forces.
Government forces have lost control over several areas in Myanmar, making them difficult or impossible to reach the support groups. The United Nations estimates that over 3 million people have been displaced due to the fight, and about 20 million people need assistance.
Red Cross reported that dowed power lines made it more difficult for their teams to reach some affected places.
The Myanmar government declared an emergency situation in six regions and states, including Naipidav and Mandle. It was not clear what the announcement would mean under the emergency of the entire country since 2021.

In the Northeast, in China, the earthquake was felt in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. According to Chinese media reports, the city of Ruili, which is on the border with Myanmar, has damaged homes, and some people were injured.
