Happy Odisha Day 2025: The Util Diva, also known as Odisha Foundation Day, is celebrated on 1 April to honor the establishment of Odisha as a separate state. The day reflects the tireless efforts of the Odia people to secure a distinct identity inherent in its language and cultural heritage.
History of utility day
Before moving towards the state in 1936, Odisha was a part of the Presidential President along with Bihar and Jharkhand. The movement for a separate state for Odia-dwelling people gained momentum in the beginning of the 20th century with a strong desire to preserve the specific language, culture and identity of Odisha.
Under the leadership of major data such as Madhusudan Das, Utkalamani Gopbandhu Das and Fakir Mohannapati, the demand for a separate province was finally accepted.
On 1 April 1936, the British government officially excluded Odisha from Bihar and Orissa province, giving it an independent administrative position. This historic milestone marked Odisha as the first Indian state to be formed on linguistic basis. Today, this important achievement is remembered every year as Odisha Foundation Day (Util Diva).

5 Odia dishes you should try
- Pantma: This nutritious dish combines lentils and seasonal vegetables, which boils with aromatic spices and ends with a drizzle of ghee. Odia homes, it is both nutritious and delicious.
- Chungdi Malai: If you love seafood, this dish is a try! The juicy shrimp is cooked in a luscious coconut milk gravy, which is infected with mild spices to create a creamy, delicious happiness.
- Chhena Poda: Often called Odisha’s signature dessert, it is made from baked delicacy fresh cottage cheese, carmelized sugar and cardamom. The result is with a smokey, sweet behavior with a rich texture.
- Rasbali: Deep cheese patties soaked in coarse, saffron-flowering milk, this dessert actually makes enjoyment. The temple of Odisha originated from the kitchen, it is a favorite among sweet lovers.
- Created an hour: A unique preparation where the fish head is slowed with a mixture of potatoes, lentils and traditional spices. This charming dish is a celebration in Odia cuisine.
