According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s ship sanitation program, dozens of passengers on a cruise ship from Florida have been made ill with Norovirus.
According to the tracking site Cruisemapper.com, the Holland America Line’s Eurodum left Port Everglades, Florida, on 19 February. The cruise is going to last 10 days and make several stops in the entire Caribbean before returning to Florida on 1 March.
According to the ship hygiene program, seventy-nine passengers and members of the nine crew have reported to be feeling ill, stating that 2,057 passengers and 834 crew members are riding on a 12-DC ship.
The major symptoms reported are diarrhea and vomiting, the vessel hygiene program said. The program stated that the crew of the ship extended cleaning and disinfection procedures, separate sick passengers and crew members, and collected feces samples for testing. The crew will be in touch with the ship vessel hygiene program to consult on hygiene procedures and report any additional diseases.

“During his current visit, many guests reported symptoms of gastrointestinal disease on Eurodums,” a Holland America Line spokesman told CBS News, “mostly in cases were solved and quickly resolved.” “We launched the enhanced hygiene protocol in conjunction with the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which reduced further transmission including continuous disinfection of the ship.”
Norovirus is a very infectious disease that causes vomiting and diarrhea. According to the CDC, most people who are sick are feeling better in one to three days, but remain infectious for a few days. In addition to vomiting and diarrhea, patients may have nausea, abdominal pain, fever, headache and body pain. Patients can also be dehydrated.
Most of the United States have seen an increase in Norovirus cases this year. In January, CDC said A winter wave of infections reached a higher level than doubling last year.
It is the second Holland America line ship killed with the outbreak of Norovirus this month. According to cruisemapper.com, another cruise ship, Rotterdam, was released from Port Everglads on 2 February. Nineteen crew members and 166 passengers reported to feel ill, the ship cleanliness program said.
The vessel hygiene program has investigated three other Norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships this year. It said that in January, 128 passengers and 20 crew members were made ill at the coral princess of Princess Cruise. Another outbreak on Viking Ocean Cruise Ship Viking Mangal impressed 62 passengers and nine crew members. This year the first Norovirus outbreak investigated by the vessel sanitation program was riding on another Holland America line ship. The vessel cleanliness program states that ninety -nine passengers and 11 crew members became ill on Wolandum.
