Pakistan’s Rising Squash Star, Noor Zaman won the final of the WSF World U23 Squash Championship on Thursday after a brilliant comeback against Egypt’s Karim L. Torque.
Zaman was facing a slowdown with a 2โ0 score, but soon he gained momentum and dominated the next three sets of the five-set game, winning the title 3โ2.
Talking after winning the title, Zaman said after two points down, his only idea was “to focus on my game”.
He said, “It was in my mind to fight long to the end.”
The second seed Zaman faced the talkie in the final after defeating Amishenraj Chandran of Malaysia at the DHA Creek Club in Karachi in the semi -final phase of the event on Wednesday.
Zaman was already two games when his rival retired from the game.
After the semi -finals, Zaman said, “The support of the crowd has been incredible and I will give everything to Pakistan to win this title.”
‘Global recognition for Pakistan’
Zaman’s outstanding performance in the tournament earned him a variety of benefits including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari from the country’s top leadership.
Congratulating the entire country about Zaman’s success, the PM said: “Noor Zaman has gained global recognition in Pakistan through his performance”.
He said, “The whole country is proud of Noor, says Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.”
Premier hoped for Pakistan’s future in squash, saying that the country would “re -achieve its lost glory in the field of squash”.
On the other hand, the President remarked that Zaman displayed “excellent performance in the championships including the final” and brought “pride in Pakistan in the game of squash”.
For Zaman’s future achievements, Zardari said, “I am hopeful for the continuous success of Noor Zaman in the future and prayed for Zaman’s future achievements.
