The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) has enabled a simple, easy use service to create and download the phenomenon of species based on data with Gbif’s mediation data. Service enables users to select their geographical, temporary and taxonomic dimensions to generate adapted reports in the format suitable for use in biodiversity models and indicators. Its implementation is part of the work of the Horizon Europe Project B-Cube (Biodiversity Building Block for Policy).

The new data cube service accepts the essential biodiversity variables (EBVs) as well as the climate and land usage changes made by B-Cubed partners, indicative workflows and access to the production of models. Specific case studies will test the ability of indicator workflow to catch relevant aspects of biodiversity changes based on various policy goals.

By providing measures for the occurrence of species in user-defined dimensions and resolutions, cubes greatly expand the purpose of GBIF-medieval data. The ability to define biodiversity dimensions with time, space, and tax for users will improve integration with other data sources to define the biodiversity dimensions and receive the calculation of the occurrence of species on those resolutions.

For example, the events of the species have an important role in calibrating and validation of the biodiversity model obtained from satellite imagery, but to date, the differences in temporary and spatial resolutions require considerable data processing. By better matching the scale and resolution, data cubes can help users to create more strong models of distribution and biodiversity of species and can change more efficiently and can improve biodiversity baseline and monitor changes over time.
