The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a government proposal to reduce the power tariff from Rs.
This shortage will be applicable to consumers across the country, including those in Karachi for a period from April to June 2025.
After a consensus with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced a decrease in power tariffs for domestic and industrial consumers respectively this month, respectively Rs 7.41 and Rs.
This decision has been sent to the federal government for formal implementation. However, the NEPRA confirmed that lifeline consumers would not benefit from shortage.
The federal government filed a request for a reduction in price with NEPRA, which heard the case on 4 April.
Nepra’s decision was read by Nepra’s decision published on his website, “The authority has no objection to immediate pace, as it does not affect Nepra’s prescribed tariff, as the GP (Government of Pakistan) has decided to provide additional subsidy from the expected collection of PDL.”

The NEPRA quoted the Energy Minister, saying (during the April 4 hearing) that the estimated collection of PDL for 3.5 months was about 58.6 billion rupees – to be used to provide tariff inter -subsidy for consumers.
“The federal cabinet has approved the proposal and allowed NEPRA to file a proposal so that consumers can be passed () the benefit in the April 2025 billing month,” the NEPRA was read in the document.
