We all have said that “sitting is new smoking” – but new research suggests that there can be still very long effects that are beyond lungs and hearts.
According to a new study published in BMC Public Health, just six hours of sedentary behavior is associated with increasing risk of neck pain.
Researchers in Beijing, China examined 25 corasts and case-control studies on neck pain and motionless behavior among over 43,000 participants.

Analysis revealed a “significant relationship” between two factors.

This risk was found more among women than men – and among employees, such as office workers, compared to students.
Screen-based dilapidated behavior, like the use of mobile phones and computers, created the greatest risk of neck pain. According to the study, watching TV was not a significant risk.
“As the sedentary time increases, there is a risk of developing neck pain.”
Screen-based motionless behavior increased the risk risk in neck more than an hour.
More risk was seen in more than four hours of diligent behavior per day, mentioning the highest event in six hours.

Researchers concluded that sedentary behavior is a “remarkable risk factor” for neck pain, while the risk increases with a longer period.
“Targeted preventive measures, especially for high -risk groups such as women and employees, are necessary,” the study has said.

“Public health initiatives should encourage decrease in motionless behavior and promoting physical activity to increase the health of the neck and reduce the global proliferation of neck pain.”

A spinal surgeon Dr. in New York. Arthur Jenkins commented on the conclusions.
“It is not surprising me to say that there is a strong relationship with neck pain in six -hour sedentary activity, as most activities that people do when they are sedentary, they are sitting,” experts, who did not work on the study, told Fox News Digital.

“During seating activities, people are either watching TV, watching their phones or working on a desk, and most of them are included in the head -looking position,” he said.
He said that this situation poured more stress from the front of the disc space along the back of the neck.
Fox News Digital, Multi-Specialist Dr. In an interview with Aza Haleem, who was not even involved in the study, agreed that the long -standing musculoskeletal issues could be a risk factor.

A doctor emphasized the importance of regular agitation, stretching and practicing ergonomic adjustment in daily routine, “Long -term seating to reduce the negative health effects.” (Istock)
“We know that being seated for an extended period, especially with poor posture or insufficient ergonomic support, certainly occurs on the cervical spine and constant tension on the related muscles, which will eventually give rise to hardness, muscle imbalance and chronic discomfort,” he said.
“Research shows a clear dose-reaction relationship-as the motionless time increases, the risk of developing neck pain,” said Haleem.

“As shown, sitting for more than six hours per day is associated with 88% higher risk than people with minimum sedentary behavior.”
Haleem emphasized the importance of regular movement, stretching and practicing ergonomic adjustment in daily routines, “to reduce long -term sitting negative health effects.”
