Washington: NASA on Tuesday announced to follow the orders of President Donald Trump to its chief scientist and others, who mark the latest in a series of administration actions that reduce climate change research.
While the step affects only 23 people, a spokesperson indicated that more cuts are coming.
The first round eclipses the office of the main scientist, led by a famous climate expert Catherine Calvin, who contributed to the United Nations’ major climate reports.
He and other American representatives were also barred from attending a major climate science meeting in China last month.
The agency spokesman Cheryl Warner said, “To optimize our task force, and in compliance with an executive order, NASA has started its phased approach to a decrease in force known as RIF.”
“A small number of individuals received the notification on 10 March, they are a part of the RIF of NASA. If they are eligible, they can opt for employees voluntary early retirement authority, or vera to participate in or complete the RIF process.”
It has been abolished that technology, policy and strategy and diversity, equity, inclusion and variety, equity and inclusion are the offices of the branches of inclusion.
NASA has so far avoided deep cuts affecting other agencies, allegedly due to the last -minute intervention by Trump’s nominated Jreds Isaqman for NASA chief. Isaacman, an e-blessing billionaire and SpaceX customer, is seen as close to Elon Musk-Tramp’s leading advisor and architect of federal cost-cut-katauti efforts.
In February, NASA was preparing to close about a thousand probationary employees. However, Isaacman allegedly reported to be cut, according to ARS Technica, she was stopped. NASA has not explained the opposite.
The new pruning, which was reported to be a report cited by NASA Watch, may indicate a change away from research and towards exploration.
Both Trump and Musk support Mars a human mission. Last week at his State of the Union address, Trump announced that the US would “put American flag on Mars and even beyond.”
NASA plays an important role in climate research, conducts a fleet of the earth-marinous satellites, conducts air and ground-based studies, develops sophisticated climate models, and provides open source data to researchers and public.
Trump, who has called climate change a “scam” and expressed despision of the United Nations and Climate Science, has already expelled America from the Paris Agreement for the second time.
Meanwhile, his administration has rejected hundreds of employees in the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), other major climate agency of the country, expecting more cuts.
