The organization of Islamic Cooperation (OC) on Friday supported US President Donald Trump’s controversial plan and supported an Arab League Counter-Proposal to handle Gaza and displace its residents, two ministers told AFP.
57-The decision of the member’s group came to an emergency meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, when the Arab League confirmed the plan at a summit in Cairo.
The Egyptian-Taiyer option for the widely condemned acquisition of Trump proposed to rebuild the Gaza Strip under the Future Administration of the Palestinian Authority.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badar Abdeltti said in an emergency comments by his Sudani counterpart, “The Emergency meeting of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) adopted the Egyptian plan, which has now become a billion-Islamic plan.”
“This is definitely a very positive thing,” said Abdeltti.
Trump triggers global resentment by suggesting the “take over” Gaza to the US and turned it to “Riviera of the Middle East”, while forced his Palestinian residents to move to Egypt or Jordan.
At the Tuesday’s summit in Cairo, Arab leaders also announced a trust fund to pay for Gaza’s reconstruction and urged the international community to return it.
“The next step is to plan an international plan through the European Union and the adoption by international parties like Japan, Russia, China and others,” said Abdeltti.
“This is what we want and we have contact with all sides including the American party.”
However, the counter-proposal does not underline a role for Hamas, which controls Gaza, and was rejected by both the United States and Israel.
Washington’s plan “does not meet the expectations”, Tammy Bruce, a spokesman of the State Department, told reporters on Thursday.
The Middle East messenger Steve Witchoff of Trump gave a more positive response, calling it “a good step with Egyptians”.
Raba Safe Allam, in Cairo of Al-Abhram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, said Egypt was demanding “comprehensive support” for its proposal.
He said, “This is an attempt to create a broad alliance that denies the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza”.
Trump’s plan is already in protest by the United Arab countries, hosting Arab leaders two weeks ago with Saudi Arabia to discuss options.
