At least five nurses working on the same floor of the Boston-region hospital have been detected by brain tumors, and they are looking for a reply.
The nurse’s union at the hospital, the Massachusetts Nurse Association (MNA) told Fox News Digital that it is actively supporting nurses at Newton-Walesley Hospital in Newton, “who focused on the diagnosis of brain tumors on the 5th floor maternity unit.”
“We believe that nurses and many other people want immediate information about the situation,” MNA continued. “This urge is a matter of concern for the health of nurses, their families and patients – an urgency that we share.”
MNA further stated that it is working to complete the “an independent, scientific investigation” in the diagnosis.

The investigation “no environmental risk was found, which could be associated with the development of brain tumors,” Jonathan Sonis, Associate Chief Medical Officer, and Sandy Museum, Chief Nursing Officer, said in a statement to Boston.com.
“Based on these results, we confidently assure the members of our dedicated team and all our patients at Mass General Brigham/Newton-Walesla Hospital that there is no environmental risk in our convenience,” the statement continued. “As usual, the health and goodness of our employees, physicians and patients is our complete top priority.”
The OHS review found that 668 X-rays were performed with portable machines on the fifth floor of Newton-Velsle between 2020 and 2024, which according to Boston.com, was doubling the risk of radiation risk compared to the normal daily radiation risk for nurses about one meter standing from the machine.
“Even though a staff member was present for all these X-rays, however, he would not have absorbed this exposure (ie, one meter from the machine), as we use appropriate X-ray safety techniques throughout the hospital,” the memorandum received by the outlet states.

MNA said it is working with the hospital, which says “only a small number of nurses were talked to and their environmental test was not widespread”.
“Hospital cannot overcome this issue by trying to provide a predetermined conclusion,” MNA said. “When we can’t currently release specific number or other diagnosis information, we are committed to being transparent about our findings when we have verified the information we collected.
“Completing this step-by-step process is important for providing help worth Newton-Valesly nurses.”
