Windows 11 24h2 and even 23H3 are getting a new start menu layout for the “all” apps that conduct the app or game based on their category. There are two new ways to organize your apps on the start menu. The first option allows you to show apps in the name-based grid layout, while the second option you have a category of view for apps.
The first major update of this year for the Start menu does not change the flagship feature of Windows 11 dramatically, but some of you may really like it, especially if you have a live tile -like arrangement or iOS category scene for apps. Like
Windows The latest first spoke about the “All” section of the start menu rebelled in 2024, and we shared our hand experience with the recently leaked version.
Today, Microsoft posted a blog post, which officially confirms the existence of the leaked start menu upgrade.
Microsoft promised that this feature would be available on Windows 11 23H2 in the coming weeks, but if you are interested, you may join beta channel to test the updated layout today.
Although it has not been mentioned, Windows understands the latest that Windows 11 24H2 is also getting a new start menu layout.
Let’s take a look at the new beginning in Windows 11
So, what is special about the new start menu?
As shown in the above screenshot, the new Start menu “All” page can now list your apps into a grid that arranges them in alphabetical order (name grid).
This means that each app now has a tile icon, and you can see apps like readers listed under Adobe after effects, Illustrator, indesign, photoshop and letter A.
There is also a new “category” scene that the group apps under its respective category.
It looks more spacious and clean, thanks to the large icon. While I do not want to compare it with live tiles with cute windows, it looks like small tiles. At the same time, it also looks like a category-organization apps on iOS.
Microsoft does not allow you to create your category, and it is possible that the company is using some types of small language models together for group apps.

Currently, the Start menu provides a simple list of apps running on the left in the alphabet order. However, instead of grid tiles, each app has its own icon and next to it, but it is not properly organized.
It is worth noting that Microsoft is still testing the facility with examiners in beta channel and there is nothing to share about its general availability.
However, Windows understands the latest that Microsoft can ship new start menu on Windows 11 23h2 and 24h2 within two months.
More start menu changes are planned
In addition, this is not the only start menu upgrade that we are getting in 2025.
As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows had already done a new sidebar test for the latest Start menu that allows you to see information, messages and apps opened on your Android phone.
At the same time, the Start menu now lets you send files on your Android phone. This feature is optional and works on existing phone link integration.
