Meta AI has been around the United States since 2023, but the company had to delay its launch in the European Union due to regulatory concerns. Now, it seems that Zuckerberg’s team has finally come on a (limited) agreement with European regulators and will roll out a version of the Meta AI for the European Union.
It seems that some kinks can be ironed yet, however, since Europe’s product version will be much limited compared to Meta AI in the United States. This will only act as a chatbot, without any lama-managed multi-modal abilities such as generating pictures or answering questions about photos.
Instagram users will be able to use chatbott to bring some types of posts on their Instagram feed, or just chat with it to churn the idea with it. One of the main reasons, the European Union regulatory bodies blocked the launch of the Mata AI last year, concerning privacy.
The company wanted to use all the user material collected from 2007 to train its AI and argued that it was fine because everyone had chosen to publicly display that information on social media.
Unfortunately for the meta, it did not fly with the European Union, which led to a year -long conversation to solve the situation. The result of this is that the European version of the meta AI is not trained on any European Union’s user data-and multi-modal abilities have been removed for now when further interactions.
The company confirmed that it wants to continue the conversation and eventually bring more features to its European offer, so the only thing is that it is waiting for it! For now, the limited version will start from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger this week.
