The US government denied “Evsdroping” in Monday’s court on a recorded jailhouse call of Murder Luigi Mangion, CEO of United Healthcare, as his defense lawyers claimed that federal officials shared their calls with the New York County Attorney Office (DANY).
Mangion -based Defense Attorney, Karen Freedman Agnifilo, said during the Friday of Mangion that one of his jailhouses was recorded with him and on “Evsdropd” by a member of Dan’s team, on “Evsdropd”, seeing that Dane office informed him that a person listened to a call.
Federal prosecutors wrote, “To ensure that no one in DEN or government does ‘Evsdrop’ on a live basis.” “Rather, many calls from the defendant are recorded in accordance with the famous practice in federal and state jails, which reports recording to the person on the other side of any call.”
The prosecutors said that the government provided several calls “by the Metropolitan Detention Center (‘MDC’) between Mangian and Freedman Agnifillo – and for Dani by the government for Dani by the government – because the defendant spoke to his lawyer on a recorded and monitoring gel line (especially in a line for a line, not to offer a line to the government).

“In any incident, no member of the federal prosecution team has heard any recording of any lawyer call, and the government has separated all the recording of these attorney calls to not be accessed further,” the prosecutors wrote.

The government said that it is a “standard practice” for gel calls through MDC’s call system, a trouper network, which plays a recording whenever a defendant makes a call that states that the call is being recorded and it is subject to monitoring. The government has so far received two sets of recording in the Mangion case from MDC, which was then provided to Dani.

The prosecutors further stated that two sets of recording had a phone call between Mangian and his lawyer, which “did not appear in the TruPhone contact list which MDC had provided to the government.”
On April 22, 2025, Danny was reviewing a paralegal recorded call and “faced this call between the defendant and Ms. Agifilo (using Agifilo number) and recognized it as a lawyer call.”

The prosecutors said, “Paralegal immediately stopped listening and the issue was told to the prosecution team in Dani, who immediately informed Ms. Agnifilo and a member of the prosecution team in the government.” “There is no one else from Dani and no one from the government reviewed this or any other lawyer call. The government has now separated this specific audio recording to prevent any unknown access, and understands that Danny has done the same.”

On 25 April, Mangian requested not to be guilty of federal allegations in a Manhattan court, in which United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s December 4, 2024, in connection with the murder.

Mangion was accused of killing Thompson in New York on charges of murder and murder, as well as electronic communication, interstate travel and using a gun when he allegedly killed the Healthcare Insurance CEO.

If the 26 -year -old is convicted of murder through the use of a gun, Mangian may face death sentence, as federal prosecutors have indicated in court filing.
