Parachinar: Between the government’s efforts to reduce tension in Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an eight -month peace agreement was signed between two warning tribes of the region on Saturday.
Confirming the development, Jirga member Haji Kamal said that the agreement was finalized along with other officials in the presence of Kurram Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed.
Sources told GEO News that the elders of both sides, district administration officials and other prominent stakeholders participated in the talks to reach the disposal.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Ahmed said that the Trus has brought double happiness for the residents before Eid ul Fitr.
Meanwhile, Jirga member Haji Asghar said that a plan is being prepared to reopen the roads, which remains blocked due to ongoing tension.
A district of over 600,000 inhabitants near the Pakistan border with Afghanistan has long been a hotspot for communal violence. But in recent months, stress has been seen to be increasing, with more than 200 people died with Clash since July.
Recent clashes extended a humanitarian crisis in the district, with drug and oxygen supply to be severely low, due to prolonged closure of connecting the main highway with Peshawar.
Reports suggest that more than 100 children may die due to severe lack of medicine, although Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesman Barrister Saif denied these claims.
A grand peace Jirga was called at the Kohat Fort for the mediation of talks between the fighting tribes of the violence-Hit district. After the conversation of the days, in January 2025, two fighting tribes signed a peace agreement, with 14 points, which aims to establish peace in the region.
However, the Hard-Won Agreement suffered a major setback, when Assistant Commissioner Saeed Manan, who was mediation to prevent fresh clashes between the warnings in Kurram, was injured in a firing incident in February.
After continuous efforts by the law applied, peace was restored, and the necessary supply also started coming to the Kurram, which was cut off from the rest of the country for months.
As part of peace efforts, several bunkers were demolished in the upper and lower parts of the Kurram last month. The process of eliminating tribal bunkers started after the peace agreement.
Separately, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) announced the head money-film Rs3M to Rs30m to Rs30m on 14 terrorists involved in recent violence in Kuram district.
In a statement, CTD claimed that the accused were involved in the murder of more than 200 people, saying that all terrorists were associated with Tehrak-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
