Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday registered a local transmitted case of the Chief Minister’s Chief Minister’s Health Advisor, Ihtisham Ali, MPOX (MPOX).
Director of Public Health, Dr. Fazal Majed said that an infection was detected in a woman, who was admitted to the hospital on 18 February after experienced fever and body pain.
He further revealed that a day later, rashes appeared inside his body and his mouth, after which Public Health Coordinator Dr. Muhammad Aamir Khan reported the suspicious case on 20 February.
A team from the Public Health Section collected samples and sent them to the Public Health Reference Laboratory at Khyber Medical University in Peshawar, where the deadly disease was confirmed on 21 February.
The case marks a departure from previous infections in the province, which was only associated with international travel.
However, in this case, the husband of the infected woman recently returned from a Gulf country. While he initially showed no symptoms on his arrival in Pakistan, he was later confirmed to be infected with MPOx, according to Majid.
According to the World Health Organization, MPOX is now a viral disease and can spread through any close contact and contaminants such as sheets, clothing and needles, which declared the global emergency of recent spread of virus in August last year.
Early symptoms are usually like flu -like fever, including fever, chills, tiredness, headache and muscle weakness. They are often accompanied by wounds raised with a painful or itchy rash that emerge and resolve over the weeks period.
The risk of more severe infection includes people with infant, severely weaker immune system and pregnant women.
In the last two months, two cases have already been reported in the same province, both include foreign travel.
One of these cases included a five -month -old baby, who returned from Qatar, while the other consisted of a passenger who was returning from Dubai.
