After the last played in the Indian Premier League in the 2022 season for Rajasthan Royals, Karun Nair gave his second opportunity on Sunday, scoring 40 balls for Delhi Capital, while he chased the target of 206 of Mumbai Indians. Delhi eventually moved to 19th position and was reduced by 12 runs, but before Nair stamped from his class.
Nair was selected by Delhi capitals for Rs 50 lakh in the IPL auction after scoring a major run scorer with 779 runs in the 2024 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he scored five centuries on a strike-day of 124. He also managed to score 1870 runs for Vidarbha for forms on domestic circuits.
After the game, Nair was asked about the time away from the IPL.
“Honestly, I was confident that I have played first (IPL) and I know how it is going to happen, and it’s nothing different that I am going to face … (this) nothing new. Therefore, in my mind, it was just about going there and giving myself on a few balls and my thoughts about my views about Mumbofere.
“So I just said to myself, ‘Give myself time, play normal shots and then, you know, improve when needed’. Fortunately, everything is closed, and I am glad that I bats well. But again, I would like it that if the team won, I won,” Nair said.
“We always knew – some of us batsmen who are sitting outside, who should be ready at any time. So, I was ready, and obviously the opportunity, whenever it came, I felt confident. I felt that I felt that I was ready to play in the IPL.”
