The hopes of Gimmer Fredate for the Olympic medal were hurt last year. He will try again to lead the USA basketball for a medal in the game of 2028 Los Angeles.
Only this time, he will not play.
Fredate was declared as the first managing director of the USA Basketball’s 3×3 men’s national team on Monday, the same role with the senior male national team of Grant Hill. Fredate – Former NBA Lottery Pick and 2011 AP College Player of the Year who retired as a player last week – will essentially look after the selection of players and coaches for major international competitions such as FIBA World Cup, FIBA Americanup, The Pan American Games and Finally, Olympics.
“This is an incredible honor to be a managing director in USA basketball,” said Fredate. “There are not many big titles compared to the game. To be able to do something worthwhile in the game, to help create a program and hope to do it correctly, this is an incredible opportunity.”
Fredate did not know much about the 3×3 game-a fast-paced style style was played in a half court with a 12-second shot clock, sports going on 21 points and capted at 10 minutes, a basket worth one and two points-when they were asked to consider playing for America for the first time about three years ago.
He eventually became the top -order 3×3 player in the FIBA world rankings.
Jimmer brought his famous shooting style to 3×3 in 2022 to 3×3 and quickly became one of the most cute athletes on Hafcourt, “said Jimmer, CEO of USA Basketball, said. “His knowledge and skills for sports, the ability to lead and lead the reputation as one of the best shooters of the game in history keeps him in a major position to become the first person in this role and helps shape the 3×3 men’s national team program of USA Basketball on the road for Los Angeles.”
The USA Basketball plans to move forward with the same structure for the 3×3 women’s national team program. It is in the process of identifying a managing director, plans to announce the recruitment of that person later this year.
Retired General Martin Dempsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of USA Basketball, said, “The Gimmer Fredate is an ideal former athlete and leader to continue building the USA 3X3 male program at the premiere program in the world.”
Fredate 2023 had the 3×3 men’s athlete of the year of USA Basketball, 2023 Pan American Games and 2022 FIBA 3×3 Mains won gold medals in Americanup, and created a roster for the Paris Olympics.
The 3×3 game, he said, came at the right time for his life as a player. He wanted a longer time with his family in Colorado and passed on opportunities to continue playing 5 -on -5 games internationally, instead moved to 3×3 games because it rarely took him away from home for more than a few days at a time at a time.
He accepted this proposal in part as he wants to thank USA Basketball for that occasion.
“I can definitely see myself doing so and part of it,” said Fredate. “People treated me very well, and I love everyone involved. I just want to be able to give back and help as much as possible.”
