    Is DDR5-8000 Worth It? The Ryzen AM5 Test

    If you are thinking of upgrading to the current AMD current AM5 platform, then you are doing research on what you have to buy, not only to buy CPU, but also with DDR5 Memory Kit, but also with DDR5 Memory Kit.

    To date, we have reviewed and tested almost all the AM5 processors with countless 600 and 800-series motherboards. However, it has been some time when we have seen the memory performance, so today we have received a quick update for you, focusing on G.Skill’s new CL26 memory and DDR5-8000 performance.

    Why do we use DDR5-6000 CL30 memory for testing

    Since the introduction of AM5, we are testing with G.Skill’s trident Z5 NEO RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, using a 32GB kit, which currently costs $ 110-a very fair price. AMD initially provided this memory to critics to evaluate the performance of Zen 4, claiming that it enables optimal results, while also stating that DDR5–6000 was the sweet place of platforms, which was definitely right for Zen 4.

    With the release of Zen 5, AMD’s message became slightly unclear. He continued to claim that DDR5-6000 was sweet place and recommended that reviewers use the same DDR5-6000 CL30 memory. At the same time, he claimed the new 800-series motherboard, claiming that the X870 boards would provide the best performance for the support of DDR5-8000.

    It was misleading for some reasons, most especially because the 800 chipset was essentially prepared to 600-series chipsets, refreshed to the Zen 5. Therefore, if an X870 motherboard supports DDR5-8000 memory, an X670 should also be possible on board-and it has come out since.

    However, it becomes slightly more complicated because the DDR5-8000 support is limited by the motherboard, not the Zen 5 memory controller or chipset. For example, when every X870/x870E motherboard is tested, we found that about half of the 21 boards tested worked with DDR5-8000, while the rest were unstable or failed to boot.

    This test was performed using the same Ryzen 9950x CPU and DDR5-8000 memory, so the limited factor was clearly motherboard. It is possible that some of these boards may support DDR5-8000 with BIOS updates, but we have not been able to confirm it yet.

    As it stands, despite the claims of AMD, DDR5-8000 is not ideal for all X870E motherboards. Based on our previous test, it is also not necessarily an optimal configuration for performance – but we will reconsider it today.

    The cause of DDR5-8000 is not always rapid-or much faster-compared to DDR5-6000, despite an increase of 33% in theoretical bandwidth, comes on the frequency on which I/O dye may operate integrated memory controller. When running the DDR5-6000, the memory clock is 3,000 MHz, and can be matched by UCLK (Unified Memory Controller Clock Frequency), which sets speed for the memory controller. This allows memory and controller to run in 1: 1 ratio at 3,000 MHz.

    However, the integrated memory controller is forced to run in a ratio of 3,000 MHz of DDR5 memory clock, as it may not exceed 3,000 MHz while maintaining stability – at least for the majority of silicon. Therefore, when using DDR5-8000, which runs at 4,000 MHz, the memory controller faces 2: 1 ratio and operates at just 2,000 MHz-33% lower than DDR5-6000.

    He said, the additional bandwidth offered by DDR5-8000 can sometimes cross the 2: 1 ratio penalty, resulting in better performance-assuming that your AM5 motherboard is stable at that frequency.

    To find out how it plays, we are comparing Ryzen 7 9700x with several DDR5-6000 configurations using DDR5-8000, including G.SKill’s new CL26 memory, and we will also include a baseline DDR5-5600 configuration. Many of you are probably curious about 9800x3D, but we did not include that CPU in this test – it would have added too much work, and we already know that it is not particularly sensitive to memory performance. It was recently displayed with 9950x3D, so DDR5 performance is more relevant to non-3D chips.

    Okay, let’s go into the data …

    Standard

    Cyberpank 2077: Phantom Liberty

    Starting with cyberpank 2077 at 1080p, we are witnessing 12% performance improvements when proceeding from DDR5-8000 CL30 memory in our reviews DDR5-8000 configurations used in DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, which gave the best results. However, it was only 2% faster than the new DDR5–6000 CL26 memory. Unexpectedly, there was little difference between DDR5-6000 CL40 and CL30 configuration, and even DDR5-5600 memory was closely placed.

    When the resolution is extended to 4K, the performance interval between the fastest and fastest configurations, while reducing the frame rate to more than 100 FPS, shrinks to only 5%. However, the difference in climbing 1% increases, with a large 13% margin.

    Horizon Zero Don Remastard

    Other single-players used in our tests are the horizon horizon zero don remasters, where we saw the widespread spread of the results. The DDR5-6000 CL30 Review Memory launched an average of 169 FPS, making the official base 5% faster than the imagination memory. Opting for DDR5-8000 promoted an additional 7% performance on review memory, reaching 180 FPS, although it was just 2% faster than the new DDR5-6000 CL26 kit.

    Switching on 4K resolution, the performance margin is quite narrow. The DDR5-8000 memory was only 5% faster than the DDR5-5600 base configuration. We saw, more and more, 6% profit in DDR5-8000 kits from DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, and only 1% improvement in the average frame rate.

    Rivalry

    For competitive multiplayer shooters, where you are more likely to reduce GPU load using moderate to low quality settings, memory performance has more impact- especially in CPU-limited scenarios. Testing Marvel rivals at 1080p, we saw an increase of 17% in climbing 1% climb at the Aadhaar DDR5-5600 at DDR5-8000, while the average frame rate increased by 9%. That said, DDR5-6000 CL26 memory performed similar to the DDR5-8000 configuration.

    At 4K, the performance scaling was somewhat unusual. We only saw a decline in performance when using DDR5-6000 CL40 memory, which performs comparatively to the DDR5-5600 base memory.

    Counter-Strike 2

    Finally, we have a counter-stroke 2. Here again, DDR5-8000 and DDR5-6000 CL26 kits gave almost equal performance, and it was also true for CL28 memory. We saw only 4% improvement when the CL30 review memory went to high-end DDR5-8000 kits. DDR5-6000 CL40 and DDR5-5600 CL38 memory also produced similar results, which fell below only a few percent.

    At 4K, the results were almost completely completely GPU-limited, with all configurations over 450 more than FPS.

    Memory option and pricing

    So you have this-as it was expected, when the CPU-limit, the DDR5 Memory AMD’s latest generation can improve the performance of Zen 5 processor. However,, depending on what we have seen here, the Zen 5 does not appear as a memory-sensitive as the previous generations of the Rvenne processor.

    For example, new CL26 memory provided at 9% uplift on CL30 memory used in our Zen 5 evaluation. This is a notable improvement, but in most cases, the benefits were in the range of 4 – 5%. DDR5-8000 was faster up to 12%, but overall, DDR5–6000 CL26 and DDR5-8000 CL38 had a very low performance difference.

    Memory performance (at this stage) matters only in scenarios where you are playing competitive shooter or game more CPU-limited than GPU-limited.

    Again, the memory performance actually matters only in scenarios where you are playing competitive shooters or games that are more CPU-limited than GPU-limited. GPU-heavy single-players-like Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, Alan Wake 2, and horizon zero don-peammium memory usually offer very little in the way of additional performance. In those cases, you are sticking with sweet-spot memory, which we have consistently found DDR5-6000 CL30.

    Especially in 32GB kits, it is clear that DDR5-5600 is not worth savings. The price of a decent kit will be around $ 80, while a good quality DDR5-6000 CL30 kit is just $ 10 more. However, DDR5–6000 CL28 kits jump up to about $ 120, and the new CL26 kits cost $ 180 or more-they are made difficult to justify them compared to CL30.

    You are spending approximately $ 170 for DDR5-8000, although sometimes there can be kits that are quite cheap, they are still much more expensive than the DDR5-6000 CL30.

    As has happened since Zen 4 … We recommend connecting your Ryzen AM5 processor with DDR5-6000 CL30 memory.

    Therefore, as has happened since Zen 4, we recommend connecting your AM5 processor with DDR5-6000 CL30 memory. As a side note, we have first tested several more memory configurations using Ryzen 77700x in eight games with RTX 4090 and similar results have been found. The DDR5-6000 CL30 memory used in our reviews gave the optimal performance, and even with manual tuning using timing from buildzoids, the performance was better than only 4% on average.

    For the new low-lower DDR5-6000 CL26 memory, we hope that it will become a more competitive price in the near future. Some performance are gaining benefits, but at the moment, the premium removed the benefits.

    We are about to start a test of every AMD B850 motherboard, so it will be interesting to see how DDR5-8000 supports in that lineup. For now, it wraps this quick update.
