Iran can be forced to develop nuclear weapons. If attacked by the United States or its colleagues, a senior advisor of Supreme leader Ayatolla Ali Khameni warned on Monday, AFP Informed
US President Donald Trump has followed the statement to increase tension between Tehran and Washington after threatening military action, if Iran does not agree to curb its nuclear program.
Ali Larizani, a prominent person under Iran’s political leadership, said on television of the Iranian state that while Iran is not actively looking for nuclear weapons, external aggression can leave it without any option. Larizani said, “We (nuclear) are not moving towards weapons, but if you do something wrong in the Iranian nuclear issue, you will force Iran to move forward because it will have to defend itself,” Larizani said. “Iran does not want to do this, but … (this) will not be an option.”
In an interview with NBC News, the statement released over the weekend, the statement, “bombing” if Iran does not comply with American demands. The President also suggested implementing “secondary tariffs” to Iran, although the details of these economic measures are not clear. Iran has strongly reacted to Trump’s comments, stating that any military action will be completed with significant vengeance. “If this is done, they will definitely receive a strong uplift,” Khameni said in a speech marking the end of Ramadan.
Iran’s response and regional tension
Iran’s United Nations Ambassador, Amir Sayid Irawani, condemned Trump’s remarks in a letter to the United Nations Security Council, warned that any aggression by the US or its colleagues would have been found with a “fast and decisive” response. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry called Swiss charge D’Farers, who represent American interests in Tehran to oppose the threat.
Apart from diplomatic warnings, Iranian military officials have also issued direct threats to American property in the region. “Americans have at least 10 grounds in the area around Iran, and a senior commander General of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Amirli Hajizade, said, and they have 50,000 soldiers. Whoever is in a glass room should not throw stones at anyone.”
Diplomatic channels are open
Despite the increased rhetoric, indirect talks between Washington and Tehran continue. Trump allegedly sent a letter to Khameni earlier this month to urge nuclear talks. Iran replied through mediators in Oman, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that “the letter had reached its destination and has been read.” However, he emphasized that Iran would not engage in direct conversation under pressure.
While there is a possibility of diplomacy, increasing stress between the US and Iran raises the concerns of further struggle in the region.
