Researchers have identified 64 genes that help shape the age of a person’s brain, which is one of the greatest attempts to indicate genetic factors that affect the decline of the organ.
Study, published1 In Science progress On March 12, 13 potential drugs have also been indicated which have already been discovered in clinical trials for their anti-aging effects and can be used to target these genes.
“Conclusions are important because they can pave the way for new remedies to keep the brain healthy,” says Tinnity College Dubline, a neuroscientist Agustin Ibnez. “But these findings require a lot of research before applying in practice.”
Brain scan
The writers wanted to understand better and find new ways to slow down brain aging. He analyzed brain scans from 38,961 people in the UK Biobank database, using a deep-teaching model trained to estimate the age of the brain. He calculated the difference between the age of the forecast brain of each individual and their chronological age – known as the brain age gap (bag) and used by researchers as a brain aging marker.
The team then analyzed 31,520 healthy participants, who had genetic data available, to find out that the gene to run the difference of its bag.
Which of the bags associated with the bags are good goals for new or renovated drugs, authors combined their analysis with activity data for 2,682 genes in blood cells and 2,915 genes in brain tissue. It flagged 64 genes with a link of the bag. Some of these genes are involved in blood clots and cell death, and seven of them were shown to be the strongest link with bags through genetic testing.
Anti-aging compound
The team also found 466 compounds, either approved as drugs or being tested in clinical studies, which targets 29 of these genes and can help in reverse of brain aging. Thirteen of those compounds work on these 64 genes or some of their protein products, and have already been tested-or being tested-in Anti-aging clinical tests.
