How bad can the collision between an oil tanker to a cargo ship for the North Sea and the environment?

Environmental organizations and UK officials are assessing possible results from toxic chemicals for marine species and surrounding wildlife population.

Although it is very early to mention whether it will have a major impact, and the weather conditions will be a major factor in the coming days, a lot will depend on how many of these substances and how many substances were on and how much has been spread.

    What can happen on board?

The Maritime Operations Company, Crowley, who was managing the oil tanker MV Stena Imaculat, confirmed that it was carrying 220,000 barrels of jet fuel in 16 containers at the time of the incident.

This was not clear on the status of all containers, but Crowley stated that there was a “broken” and was leaking fuel in the sea.

The contents of the cargo ship, Solong, who crashed into the tanker, have become less clear.

A shipping data company Lloyds List said on Monday that she was carrying sodium cyanide.

But on Tuesday, Ernst Ras, the owners of the cargo ship said: “We are able to confirm that there are no containers on the board equipped with sodium cyanide.

“There are four empty containers that first have dangerous chemicals and these containers will continue to monitor.”

It is not clear whether the ship was carrying other materials at the time of accident.

What are the risk of jet fuel and sodium cyanide?

Jet fuel is a toxin that can be fatal to marine organisms like marine organisms and other animals.

The level of poisoning is dependent on crude oil to refine it.

Sodium cyanide, which is used in the industry for metal cleaning, is also a toxin and poisonous to living organisms as it disrupts cell function and leads to oxygen starvation.

Sodium cyanide is also highly soluble in water and can react strictly to produce gas hydrogen cyanide – which is also toxic.

The confirmation that it was only an empty container will overcome some concerns about environmental damage on the board and make the clean-up operation easier.

The third idea for the authorities would be whether the fuel is used to run both ships – bunker fuel – is also leaked.

Sea fuel jet is much higher than fuel and can live in the environment for a long time.

Alex Lukianov said at the UK’s Reading University. “Marine can smoke diesel houses and wildlife, affect their ability to regulate body temperature, as a result of death.”

“Environment toll can be serious,” he said.

    What can be mitigated?

The maritime accident investigation branch is overseeing the operation to respond to the incident and clean any pollution.

Great Grimbi and Clethorps MP Melani On told the Today’s Today’s Today’s Today’s Today’s Today’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is evaluating the contamination risk and is working with the owners of both ships to plan a disposal operations.

Emeritus Professor, Professor of Environmental Poison Sciences at Leeds University, said: “Priority, I imagine, trying to prevent damage to the crew, will be to extinguish the fire and preserve the ships. This will reduce the amount of chemicals entering the water and will have risk for wildlife downstream.”

The fire that broke out after the accident helped to burn some jet fuel, but can also prevent an immediate starting effort.

The Research Manager of the Institute of Marine Research, Frod Vikebø said that the UK government would modeling the spread of any contaminants into the sea as part of the “standard process”, in view of the circulation of the sea and weather conditions.

In the context of mitigation, he said that different options are available: “A skirt can be used to limit horizontal spread and at the same time can also be used, which are chemicals that reduce the size of any drops and also go down to the water column to the pollutants and prevent them on the surface of the sea.”

The chalk clifted habitat of beMpton clifs is an important breeding ground for many species including gannets.

    Can wildlife be affected?

The collision occurred within an environmentally rich region – for both marine species, but also a population of birds that feed fish and other aquatic organisms.

Hamber Muhana is a place of special scientific interest and supports more than half a million birds annually, including BEMPTON CLIFS NATUREVE as well as pink legs, puffins, avocates and bar-taild Godwits.

At this time of the year, breeding seals and ports are porpoise within the widespread maritime environment.

Director of Operations of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Martin Slater said that the time of the year is that it is split, especially worrying.

He said, “Many birds are collecting offshore on the sea ahead of the nest hunting season and we still have a winter – as well as migratory birds are stopping here – so we are actually very concerned about the danger for these birds,” he said.

Wildlife to the south of this phenomenon is also concerned that jet fuel can spread depending on air and sea conditions.

The area of the coast of Lincolnshire “is a unique habitat for fish where sebers and situation feed” explained to Sri Slater.

Ecological experts have reported that animals have reactionary mechanisms, which means the noise and odor of the accident would have alerted them to the dangers and they could already evacuate the area.
